Was Rathman and Tomsula the only two coaches retained when Harbaugh was hired?

Seems pretty evident that Tomsula was their choice all along, based on reports that surfaced as early as midseason. That being the case, seems like a bit of douchebaggery for them to deny other teams permission to interview Fangio earlier.

We needed an offensive HC, Tomsula a great guy to the players but Dline and Def coordinators are a dime a dozen,a great offensive mind is hard to find. York is a poor excuse for an owner. I am so glad I resisted buying into the York/Santa Clara fiasco!

The answer is to learn and get better at the fundamentals that he has not yet mastered. Has nothing to do with the system being ran on the field. No matter what system is ran, he needs to throw from the pocket better. That's what Warner will teach him.

WTF !!! I live in a different time zone, I stayed up as late as I could till 4:30am waiting for the news, nothing happened, went to bed, woke up and JIM TOMSULA is our new head coach ??????!!!!!!!!!!!

You know, I said to cciowa that perhaps I would give Jed York a chance to see who he brings in first. NO !! Not anymore !! I have to retract my statement !! This is a joke !! And Jed York has turned the 9ers into a laughing stock !!

OK, so Jim Harbaugh fxxked up the offense, we missed the playoffs and he had to fire him, I get it. But, to promote Jim Tomsula as the new HC is supposed to be the better choice ?! Jed York and Trent Baalke doesn't have a fxxking clue what they are doing !!

Can someone throw me a bone here and tell me which hot OC would be willing to go to the 9ers now and work under a no-name DL coach ?! And we are supposed to fix this offense ?! This is fxxking BS !!

The 49ers have imploded and we will be heading back to the dark ages for the next decade. If I was a free agent, I would get the fxxk out from there right away.

That was reported, but nobody knows.

It was also reported that Adam Gase was our new coach...so take everything with a healthy grain of salt right now.

Fangio could still return as our D coordinator. Why would they let him walk if they had hopes of retaining him?

Offense has been the problem and I had hoped the new HC would address that side of the ball. So even more is riding on the OC they hire. If they don't get a really good playcaller with a great Scheme the team will be in trouble for a few years. If they do get a strong OC and they succeed, even moderately, the OC is likely to be poached and the team will need to reboot.

This could also be true of the defense but they had a successful defensive staff in place already. If the team wasn't close to a championship caliber group I could see blowing it up this way, but I would have much prefered an experienced OC for the HC job that Fangio and staff would accept. That would have given them the best shot at winning over the next couple of years.

Continuity? Jed York mentioned that this was one of the name reasons they hired Tomsula. Yet...from what I'm hearing, the entire staff is being let go except for Tomsula. So the DL has their guy...but he won't have him because he will be busy being the HC...and that means every single area will have a new coach. How is that maintaining continuity?

What a very odd day it turned out to be--one of the very few options I totally opposed was selected. I will regain my sense of optimism and hope for the best...and go watch the Warriors!

This reminds me of that time the front office came out of nowhere and drafted AJ Jenkins in the first round, and then everyone flipped out, but a few eternal optimist cautioned us against panicking and jumping to conclusions.

I'm guessing Baalke wants to keep Fangio on staff, which is why we denied an interview that would be a lateral move for Fangio, not a promotion.

While this is as unsexy as it gets, lets see what staff he can put in place. Right now with the defensive staff exodus, its pretty hard not to be skeptical.

Though its not like the fan base is any better than the FO at this point, NT is in full on hilarity mode right now.

Meanwhile last years holdouts Vernon Davis (told Tomsula he'd be there for first practice) and Boone (called into 95.7 the Game when no longer contracted to do so to say how happy he was about Tomsula) don't appear to be having your issues.
