So what's the supposed continuity they were trying to keep around if they do actually dump all the staff except for Rathman?

And who the hell does JimmyT know on offense to coach all of this up? If we get an OC, is he gonna have to open up his rolodex to get all of his guys? Onviously a QB coach who gets chosen as our OC won't have many options from his old staff. Trestman might have some people. i have no confidence in Kyle Shanny to hire a staff (WASH was a mess).
The money york saves can go to the mortgage payments on our pretty stadium.

Multiple reports have stated that pretty much all the staff is out the door.

Multiple reports have said lots of things in the past which proved to be wrong. We have to wait and see at this point.

Unfortunately, "Multiple Reports" seems to have us pegged this year.

Im not saying its not gonna happen, but multiple reports had Rathman going as well, and now those reports have shifted to him staying (he is the coach i would have been most bummed about losing besides Tomsula so i have been watching for his name.).

We have to wait and see.

And im not going to discredit Fangio, because he did an amazing job with our defense, but its not like the league has beat down his door to interview him for HC gigs, so to use that argument against Tomsula, who did indeed get a HC interview a year or two back is a bit ridiculous.

I Just think the reactions at this point, while expected if this was the hire, are way over the top.

Offense has been the problem and I had hoped the new HC would address that side of the ball. So even more is riding on the OC they hire. If they don't get a really good playcaller with a great Scheme the team will be in trouble for a few years. If they do get a strong OC and they succeed, even moderately, the OC is likely to be poached and the team will need to reboot.

This could also be true of the defense but they had a successful defensive staff in place already. If the team wasn't close to a championship caliber group I could see blowing it up this way, but I would have much prefered an experienced OC for the HC job that Fangio and staff would accept. That would have given them the best shot at winning over the next couple of years.

Continuity? Jed York mentioned that this was one of the name reasons they hired Tomsula. Yet...from what I'm hearing, the entire staff is being let go except for Tomsula. So the DL has their guy...but he won't have him because he will be busy being the HC...and that means every single area will have a new coach. How is that maintaining continuity?

What a very odd day it turned out to be--one of the very few options I totally opposed was selected. I will regain my sense of optimism and hope for the best...and go watch the Warriors!

I will hope for the best as well but this move reeks of immature leadership. To recap, the are releasing all staff except for 2, fire the HC with a 44-19 record because the GM doesn't like him, force the DC out who just so happens to be one of the bright spots of the season and let go an offensive coordinator who was immediately hired somewhere else. For what? To promote Jim Tomsula, a relative unkown, untested, unproven coach over other more respectable options? I hope it works out for them but for right now this organization has a big stink all over it.

It appears that leadership valued controllability over product and that is always a recipe for failure.

stay committed to being a power run team. that's Baalke's vision and what this team's offense is built for.

This makes sense. You don't want another coaches assistants mucking up chemistry if there are likely to be some touchy feelings.

Solari was also here before. Not sure who Tomsula is going to get for all the rest of these positions. I actually felt better before we hired anyone. Nothing against Tomsula, but how many people can you have coached with when you've been with the same team your entire time in the league? Ted Tollner busy?
My final optimistic comment on this for the night...Tomsula has been in the NFL long enough to have a considerable pool of friends to draw from for OC and DC, etc. Here's hoping he succeeds beyond my wildest dreams! Good luck coach!

This. For whatever reason, this organization can not keep internal stuff.....internal.

Interesting... Meeting with Baalke and not Tomsula....

Matt Maiocco ‏@MaioccoCSN
Just spoke to #49ers OL coach Mike Solari. He said GM Trent Baalke called him. He will meet with Baalke in the morning to see where it goes.

And yet Tomsula has been working with him for how many years now.
Takeo Spikes ‏@TakeoSpikes51 1h1 hour ago Congrats Jim Tomsula for being the next head coach of the @49ers . One hell of a coach that has an exceptional way of teaching. #NinerPride
