If we could find the next John Harbaugh that would be the grand slam hire.

Yeah but if they did draft the next John Harbaugh, your actual casual fan would lose their minds and the tears would be nonstop.

And they only got him in Baltimore after Jason Garrett turned them down.

You mean, outside of what's he's done the last 4 years? Yeah, let's ignore his recent accomplishments and only look at his older, not so good accomplishments. Lol

The point remains, did Fangio all of a sudden became this tremendous coach after a decade+ of being an average DC, or is it more likely that the talent on this team makes him look a heck of a lot smarter. The same questions people are asking of Gase and McDaniels apply to Fangio as far as I'm concerned. The fact is, outside of San Francisco he hasn't had a lot of success and his defenses have typically gotten worse, season by season so its certainly worth considering.

This too. Sometimes its better to be lucky than smart I guess.

Shanahan will never be an OC again, that much I promise you.

The talent? Did you not watch this season and see what he had to work with?

Look at the Cardinals with Arians. He was literally the last candidate available lol.
Ideally the best option is probably:

HC M. Shanahan
OC K. Shanahan
DC Fangio (has a year on his contract)

Do you understand why that behavior is construed as arrogant? They didn't even give him an interview.

Should they offer up an interview to every old guy out there past his prime? I'm sure Marty Schottenheimer and Seifert have a little left in the tank, interview them too.

Also round up Marv Levy and Mike Ditka while they're at it. I think a good example of one HC that basically came out of nowhere who's remained very consistent and steady over a long time is John Harbaugh. I'm sure when he was hired there were thousands of ravens fans going WTF at first. I mean who goes from being an ST Coordinator straight to an HC, it doesn't happen very often. He even had one or two non-winning seasons but their FO rode the storm out and almost got to the SB once before finally winning it. IMO he keeps a much better handle on things as an HC than his brother does. He has a similar demeanor and ability with the media as Carroll without being a smug a-hole. We need to find the next John Harbaugh HC candidate which unfortunately was not his brother Jim. In fact, losing to his brother in the SB may be the ultimate reason why Jim is gone.

oh sure, toss in Don Shula and Bill Parcells too.

Strong sense within Skins headquarters that Wade Phillips is well positioned to be their next defensive coordinator. Has ample support

Just FYI.
I am not sold on Jim Tomsula for HC at all if bring in Jason Tarver as his DC is his plan...no thanks!

Mike Pettine only got the Cleveland job after there #1 choice Adam Gase dropped out. Pettine got them there most wins since 2007.

As opposed to Gase and McDaniels, who would instantly take us to the SB ? Because they "coach" players like Manning and Brady ? Don't get the hype behind those guys -- without their respective QBs, they wouldn't even be candidates...

SO you want the FO to look at coaches that have bad QBs?? I don't really understand you reasoning saying that QBs make coaches? I think it is a mutual thing and I don't think it hurts learning from really good QB's as well.

Like I mentioned there were plenty of OC that had good QBs that turned into good HC.
