They got a lot of bars up there, I don't know............

Hey show some respect to the man that really built the roster.

You're selling Vic short. This team had top 5 talent on defense before Vic got here and yet we never had a top 5 defense. Keep in mind that at no time this season was there top 5 talent on the field and yet Vic had this team sniffing top 5 with 2nd and 3rd stringers.

By that logic Roman should have been able to field a top 5 offense too since most around here think there's so much talent on that side of the ball as well. Niner fans are approaching green bay fan level homerism around here.

The defense was ranked #4 in the NFL in 2009.

Agreed, but don't you think coaches also change their approach and adapt to the new NFL? All i am saying is to give these guys an interview chance. I for one don't want to go back to the dark days of Nolan, sing and Erickson. Except for MS, none of these names inspire me. Kubiak would be an option.

Be honest, how much do you know about most of the guys that are being interviewed? I mean, really know? As fans we don't really have a clue as to who will be a good coach. I know for a fact that a lot of Steelers fans were pissed off when Tomlin was hired. He was "clearly unqualified".....looking back on it, how does that decision look now?

Same thing as jcool mentioned with John Harbaugh. Do you think Ravens fans were thrilled with their team hiring a special teams coach to be their head coach? Now he has won a Superbowl and looks to be on his way to a second, a very outstanding coach.

We all have our favorites and we all THINK we know what would be best for the team but in reality, we don't have a clue, we aren't interviewing with these guys, we aren't hearing how they propose to get this team back to the playoffs and to win a Superbowl, for most casual fans, the only thing they know is that Adam Gase is Manning's OC, I'd wager that most casual fans don't know that he worked for the 49ers previously, or Quinn or Pep Hamilton.

4th in scoring & 15 in yards. NFL counts yards in defensive ranking.

He wants the job but the Niners aren't interested. He said that on a Seattle radio show.

I think Holmgren wants anyone that will hire him and all that "oh yea I got few calls" talk was bs. No disrespect to him because he's accomplished a great deal, but his time is done.

I know nothing about any of candidates. But as a fan who has watched every game since 1978, I know what got us their, and I wanted back. Do I have a solution? Of course not, I am just a fan. Its Ok to wish and dream bro!!!

Its okay to wish and dream but getting irrationally upset because the front office isn't bowing to your wishes doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Whether you like or dislike the front office, the only choice you have is to trust that they'll make the best possible decision. I would be pretty disappointed if they hired someone from in-house, either Fangio or Tomsula but I'd still make peace with it and hope for the best.

Gotcha I agree he has been a good coach in the past. I just don't like all the talk of a successor before he has even coached a down...it's like they have to find 2 head coaches lol.

Not if fangio is promised he is the successor

Your gonna promise the DC that in 5 years you will be the successor and you will learn the offense from Mike? LOL come on man!

Shanahan is 5 years younger than Holmgren. They interviewed him.

Shanahan also coached sometime in the past 7 years. Its not just that Holmgren is old, its that he's been out of coaching for a really long time.

Age shouldn't factor IMO Pete Carroll and Bruce Arian's are 62 I believe

Kubiak might not be as good in terms of developing someone like Kap but he has taken far worse players and made them serviceable - he would need someone like Trestman who can teach the finer points of being a QB but I also think he brings a lot to the table in terms of coaching.

You do know that Kubiak actually was an NFL quarterback right, and that he took Schaub and had him playing at a Pro Bowl level for a number of seasons.

Schaub was the referenced far worse player buddy, I wasn't clear though in meaning that I think he would need another QB guru just because of the demands of being HC and really tutoring a QB.

How am I being irrational when I am questioning this ownerships track record. Is there something wrong with that? BTW, I am way too old the get upset over things that I have no control over. You are correct about Tomsula and Fangio though!

Yeah, that bridge has already been crossed and its not happening.

I know he's older (66?) and he probably wouldn't coach more than a few years, but to not even interview the dude to pick his brain and listen to what he has to say is very disappointing.

For me it's always been one of those ironic "what if" things when it comes to Holmgren....one of the greatest moments in 49ers history prevented them from potentially bringing Holmgren back to SF. When Owens made the catch in '98 and eliminated Green Bay, that started the 10-day clock in Holmgren's contract that would allow him to leave if he could get a HC+GM job, but obviously with 49ers still being in the playoffs they had no shot at him. I was never a big Mariucci fan, would have loved to have seen what Holmgren could have done.

HC M. Shanahan
OC K. Shanahan
DC Fangio (has a year on his contract)

No way we take both Shanahans...we had enough drama this last year. I can only imagine Timmy K's first article if this were to happen.
