Here's the way I look at it. The front office is going to decide on a coach, he could end up being a great coach, a guy who wins multiple Superbowls and makes people go "Jim who", or he could be an absolute disaster of a coach, a guy that falls flat on his face and is quickly out of the job.

Eitherway, I don't have a say in the matter, and eitherway I'm going to continue being a 49ers fan, regardless of what may be.

You're selling Vic short. This team had top 5 talent on defense before Vic got here and yet we never had a top 5 defense. Keep in mind that at no time this season was there top 5 talent on the field and yet Vic had this team sniffing top 5 with 2nd and 3rd stringers.

By that logic Roman should have been able to field a top 5 offense too since most around here think there's so much talent on that side of the ball as well. Niner fans are approaching green bay fan level homerism around here.

I'm selling no one short and unless I am mistaken, we own him for another year anyway. He is not drawing any HC interest outside of the organization. Also, I don't think we have top 5 talent on offense, but we have plenty of we can get someone that knows how to use them.

So unless you are privy to some secret info about Fangio being pursued by some other team, his choices are very limited. He can continue to be one of the top paid coordinators in the league on a team with stacked defensive talent, or he can go sit on his couch and watch football on tv.
Look like Pep Hamilton will not interview for head coaching opeings this week because the Colts are still in the playoffs.

They got a lot of bars up there, I don't know............

Hey show some respect to the man that really built the roster.

yeah show some respect to the guy who brought Justin Smith in via a helicopter ride
By chance, does anyone here live near Buffalo........

I'm done. This is the guy I wanted and the Niners aren't even interested? Now they spit in the face of a guy that helped build the organization with Bill Walsh. Jed and Baalke, you have done nothing but piss me and all the other fans off. You truly have no idea what you are doing. I live near Buffalo – I can become a Bills fan.

Lol the team whose head coach just said "F it, I'm out!"

Have fun! (not you Phoenix)

HC M. Shanahan
OC K. Shanahan
DC Fangio (has a year on his contract)

No way we take both Shanahans...we had enough drama this last year. I can only imagine Timmy K's first article if this were to happen.

I just want Kawakami to move to a different state and start covering another team. He can bring the Cohnheads with him. Bunch of trolls under the Golden Gate Bridge.

I want Holmgren....that is all

Yeah, that bridge has already been crossed and its not happening.

I know he's older (66?) and he probably wouldn't coach more than a few years, but to not even interview the dude to pick his brain and listen to what he has to say is very disappointing.

For me it's always been one of those ironic "what if" things when it comes to Holmgren....one of the greatest moments in 49ers history prevented them from potentially bringing Holmgren back to SF. When Owens made the catch in '98 and eliminated Green Bay, that started the 10-day clock in Holmgren's contract that would allow him to leave if he could get a HC+GM job, but obviously with 49ers still being in the playoffs they had no shot at him. I was never a big Mariucci fan, would have loved to have seen what Holmgren could have done.
No sense in wasting his or the front office's time...I don't get why people are upset that he didn't get a courtesy interview. He has been out of heading coaching for a while and isn't a long term option. I mean he basically said he was going to retire if he didn't get a offer from SF, tell's me his heart isn't really in it anymore.

Need to find the next great offensive mind, not some retread old coach set in his ways
At least they aren't interested in Holmgren. That's a positive
I was doing some digging, and found that in the late 90's when Fangio was DC in Carolina. One Greg Roman was on staff as a quality control coach.

And on top of that. Carolina's ST coach: Brad Seely.

Weird.

Yeah, they were on the staff with Houston and Baltimore together too.
