I want Holmgren....that is all

Yeah, that bridge has already been crossed and its not happening.

I know he's older (66?) and he probably wouldn't coach more than a few years, but to not even interview the dude to pick his brain and listen to what he has to say is very disappointing.

For me it's always been one of those ironic "what if" things when it comes to Holmgren....one of the greatest moments in 49ers history prevented them from potentially bringing Holmgren back to SF. When Owens made the catch in '98 and eliminated Green Bay, that started the 10-day clock in Holmgren's contract that would allow him to leave if he could get a HC GM job, but obviously with 49ers still being in the playoffs they had no shot at him. I was never a big Mariucci fan, would have loved to have seen what Holmgren could have done.
No sense in wasting his or the front office's time...I don't get why people are upset that he didn't get a courtesy interview. He has been out of heading coaching for a while and isn't a long term option. I mean he basically said he was going to retire if he didn't get a offer from SF, tell's me his heart isn't really in it anymore.

Need to find the next great offensive mind, not some retread old coach set in his ways

Oh, I don't know, maybe because he knows just a little about the WCO, was one of the key components during the dynasty years, is a direct link to Bill Walsh, and wasn't too terrible of a HC? If you're going to actually interivew Rex Ryan, then you can spare some lunch money and a couple hours to talk with Mike Holmgren. I'm not saying to necessarily hire the guy, but yeah, I do think he at least warrants a conversation.

LOL I like that...but honestly you think they should talk to him for a couple of hrs for the sake of talking to him knowing that you're not going to hire him? Meanwhile other teams are interviewing actual candidates that you want (not one team has asked to talk with Holmgren). Doesn't make any business sense to me.

Get over the WCO thing...they don't have the personal to run it at this point (Kap isn't accurate or smart enough at this pt). Love BW and his coaching tree, but that was a long time ago and it is time to focus on the future and stop trying to hold onto the past with old retread coaches that don't even really have the heart to coach anymore.

I'll take a young offensive mind the is driven to be the next great HC much like Holmgren/Shanahan were in their younger days...instead of a old HC that has already put his stamp on the NFL.

He went on to completely turn around Brett Favre's career. He actually made Matt Hasselback a Super Bowl QB. He's one of the original certified Walsh coaching tree gurus of the WCO.

Come on, guys. Lose this raging age bias with Holmgren. Holmgren has always been a bad-azz and he probably still is.

Sometimes, the game just passes you by.

Mike Holmgren rips Browns' Trent Richardson trade
By Dan Hanzus Around the NFL Writer Published: Sept. 19, 2013 at 11:23 p.m. Updated: Sept. 20, 2013 at 03:41 p.m.

Mike Holmgren didn't believe it when his daughter told him on the phone. The Cleveland Browns had traded Trent Richardson?

The former Browns president wasn't convinced until he saw it for himself on his computer. Holmgren had moved up aggressively in the 2012 NFL Draft to nab Richardson. Now just two games into the running back's sophomore season, he was gone.

"I struggled with it," Holmgren told Seattle's KJR-AM on Thursday, via The Plain Dealer. "Philosophically, if I'm the coach and someone came in anywhere and did that, I'd say 'OK, fire me, or I'm going to quit. Or we're going to both go into the owner and talk about this and then we'll see who's still standing.' "

"How do you make your team better by trading your best player?" he added. "He's the best offensive player. He's a valuable, valuable guy."

Oh Im sure we could go back and find a lot of guys on every roster that certain coaches thought was "the one", only to have it backfire. Or did we forget the AJ Jenkins pick ?

With that said, lets keep in mind that Holmgren took 2 quarterbacks to the SB...both were not superstars coming out of college. He groomed both Favre and Hasselback into contending quarterbacks, and of course we know his track record with the 49ers.

I don't think the game has passed him by at all. There's no evidence of that whatsoever. Just conjecture by fans who don't want him.

No guarantee Chud goes anywhere, as far as I know he's under contract with Indy and is next in line for OC if and when Hamilton gets a HC gig.

Linehan is the only one that I know for sure has an expiring contract.
why in gods name is mike shannahan aka rat face winning this poll

he unprofessionally leaked a ton about rg3's diva qualities in order to cover his own ass.

rg3 is a douche but the way shannahan acted showed he cared more about his own image than keeping things in house and running a unified football team

he has done nothing w/o john elway and steve young

i want vic fangio

Trent Richardson=3.3 yards per carry this season with the Colts.

Jed asked if they should interview Holmgren and Baalke showed him this article and they both...

That he's been out of coaching for the better part of a decade is a good sign. That he had a terrible stint in Cleveland as a personnel guy was an even bigger one. It has passed him by, the problem is that he's still struggling to acknowledge it.

Hopefully we can add Kaep to that list after next season.

According to @mortreport , Dan Quinn, not Doug Marrone is the favorite for the #Jets head coaching vacancy.
I hope they can hold out for a Kubiak interview. I loved the gameplan they had against Pittsburgh. Other than that, I am okay with Fangio and Shanahan. I just remember that the Patriots always seem to screw everyone, so let them keep McDaniels. Trades with the Patriots never seem to work out...... well, except for the trade to get Joe Staley ,much more valuable than Jerod Mayo (whom the patriots picked)

Alright River, who you got as a guestimate this week? I'm asking this knowing full-well I expect, like the draft, changes up until the decision has been made. But you're my baseline, man!

Makes sense. Longtime DL coach, would help make that DL even more beastly. A far more no-nonsense guy than Rex, not a media whore either.

No way we take both Shanahans...we had enough drama this last year. I can only imagine Timmy K's first article if this were to happen.

timmy is already all over this...saying hire mike and kyle is the successor... he put out and article already on this subject. i dislike timmy immensely.

but shanahan could probably do good things with kap.

They can't have Mike and Kyle because Kyle is currently the OC in Cleveland. Tim is a dummy and has blocked me from his articles

And Koetter & Mornhinweg are dangling after the guys who hired them got canned.

This. Their offense was a thing of beauty, mixing the running in with the passing game, using bootlegs, getting Flacco on the move, staying aggressive with some shots deep downfield, well done.
