With that said, lets keep in mind that Holmgren took 2 quarterbacks to the SB...both were not superstars coming out of college. He groomed both Favre and Hasselback into contending quarterbacks, and of course we know his track record with the 49ers.

I don't think the game has passed him by at all. There's no evidence of that whatsoever. Just conjecture by fans who don't want him.

That he's been out of coaching for the better part of a decade is a good sign. That he had a terrible stint in Cleveland as a personnel guy was an even bigger one. It has passed him by, the problem is that he's still struggling to acknowledge it.

He was coach of Seattle in 2008. Thats 6 years removed. You guys want to round it to a decade because it fits the "old man" agenda.
BTW, that old man took Seattle to a SB less than 10 years ago....more recently than Mike Shanahan, and more times than Kubiak (both guys I support as Harb replacements).

HC Vic Fangio
OC rob chudzinski
DC Ed Donatell
No guarantee Chud goes anywhere, as far as I know he's under contract with Indy and is next in line for OC if and when Hamilton gets a HC gig.

Linehan is the only one that I know for sure has an expiring contract.

And Koetter & Mornhinweg are dangling after the guys who hired them got canned.

If Quinn gets the Jets job look for Koetter to be his OC.
What is with all this Shanahan interest? Is Jed York becoming Daniel Snyder 2.0? Are the west coast version of the Redsklins? Shanahan going to hire his son as OC. This is ridiculous. Kubiak would be a better choice.

This. Their offense was a thing of beauty, mixing the running in with the passing game, using bootlegs, getting Flacco on the move, staying aggressive with some shots deep downfield, well done.

They totally overwhelmed Pitt.

If he could do that here -

"Gary Kubiak - Come one Down!"

I want Holmgren....that is all

Yeah, that bridge has already been crossed and its not happening.

I know he's older (66?) and he probably wouldn't coach more than a few years, but to not even interview the dude to pick his brain and listen to what he has to say is very disappointing.

For me it's always been one of those ironic "what if" things when it comes to Holmgren....one of the greatest moments in 49ers history prevented them from potentially bringing Holmgren back to SF. When Owens made the catch in '98 and eliminated Green Bay, that started the 10-day clock in Holmgren's contract that would allow him to leave if he could get a HC+GM job, but obviously with 49ers still being in the playoffs they had no shot at him. I was never a big Mariucci fan, would have loved to have seen what Holmgren could have done.
No sense in wasting his or the front office's time...I don't get why people are upset that he didn't get a courtesy interview. He has been out of heading coaching for a while and isn't a long term option. I mean he basically said he was going to retire if he didn't get a offer from SF, tell's me his heart isn't really in it anymore.

Need to find the next great offensive mind, not some retread old coach set in his ways

Oh, I don't know, maybe because he knows just a little about the WCO, was one of the key components during the dynasty years, is a direct link to Bill Walsh, and wasn't too terrible of a HC? If you're going to actually interivew Rex Ryan, then you can spare some lunch money and a couple hours to talk with Mike Holmgren. I'm not saying to necessarily hire the guy, but yeah, I do think he at least warrants a conversation.

He also has not shown any interest in coaching in 7 years. The fact that he suddenly became interested again because he knows this team is good, is a red flag.

We all appreciate what Holmgren did for the Niners, but if the FO does not think he fits their needs, then I am ok with it. I trust Baalke will get his guy.

2 years ago (2012 season) and 2013 I heard him interviewed on 95.7 where both times he said he did want one more crack as a HC. Again, not saying he's my #1 choice...I guess you could say my #1 choice is now the HC at Michigan. But I think that yes, they should at least talk to Holmgren...listen to his ideas, espeically as it relates to OFFENSE.

Who knows, maybe they decide he's not the right guy to be HC, but maybe he would be a valuable person to involve in the HC search...I doubt there's anyone in that FO that could offer more insight and informed opinions of potential head coaches' offensive chops than Holmgren.

Not if the Browns have anything to say about that.

Shanny wouldn't be bad but yes I'd prefer Kubiak. Seems like he's content with being the Ravens OC for awhile doe.

I would love to have Kubiak as our HC. My only hesitation is that his offense relies on QB's ability to read defenses and make good decisions. Is Kaep really at that level yet ? I just don't see him functioning as well as Flacco under Kubiak's schemes.

But I would still love to have him.
My Best guess: after the 49ers satisfy the Rooney rule (midweek), I think a decision will come late in the week. If it doesn't, I'm going to think they're holding out for a coordinator who is still in the playoffs (Gase, McD, Kubiak). That's just my unprofessional (and probably unwanted) opinion.

I do like what he has done in Baltimore this year and is my #2 option and I think he is the safest pick. I don't really want to give him too much created against a Steeler's team that wasn't great on defense all year though.

Wish Pitt would have won, so Gary could have been interviewed. I think they could wait to interview him because Vic is always the backup

Flacco has thrown 8 more touch downs this year and 10 less INTs. His QB rating jumped 17.9 points and completion % went up 3.1%

According to @mortreport , Dan Quinn, not Doug Marrone is the favorite for the #Jets head coaching vacancy.

Yes, please get Quinn out of the NFC West.

I think Bal will lose in NE. So maybe next week they'll move on him if they haven't done something already.

Pete Carroll runs that D. When Gus Bradley left did that D get worse?

What evidence do you have that the game hasn't passed him by given his long time off since he last coached other than just your belief that it hasn't?

I'm not saying it has, but he hasn't even been doing TV since he left the Browns, which did not go particularly well. The NFL game has changed quite a bit in the last 7 years (read option, increased restrictions on defenses, annual rule changes, less offensive balance, more empty sets, use of the pistol formation, etc.), not to mention the known grind that Holmgren has not appeared to want any part of since he left coaching.

Theyll just promote Rocky Seto or Kris Richard.
