Why would he do that? I want him out as much as anyone but I don't him to resign. That would let the Yorks off the hook for making a piss poor decision and having to pay him. He should get every penny out of them as possible.
He can't resign. If you resign from your contract, they owe you nothing. You may even owe them something if there's language about early exit. When the owner terminates you they owe you for the balance of your contact unless there's language with a fixed settlement amount. I think there's only been 2 coaches in the NFL that didn't get their balance paid out : Kiffin (Raiders), Shanny(Redskins). The owners need to prove some negligence or failure of team rules and was the reason for Al Davis' overhead projector debacle. I think the court even sided with Davis.
I don't think York will try to prove any sort of wrong doing with Tomsula, so if he gets canned they will owe him his remaining 3 years at 2.5M/yr or $7.5M. This is why I think so many zoners are thinking York won't pull the plug, because of the payout. However if you look at the lost revenue and potential cancellations will they eclipse $7.5M? Probably. The Niners franchise was valued at #3 or 4 in the league, mostly due to a new stadium, I'm curious what the team will drop to after this season and if there's no sign of hope on the way.
