As others have said, it will be crucial for him to get some legit coordinators. The player quotes are nice, but most guys would rather play for an a**hole and win, than a nice guy and lose. My biggest concern is the FO and management hiring a guy they know/feel will go along with what they say. It can go both ways. They know him, they share the same philosophy, hopefully there won't be friction or arguing. Successful coaches have egos and they probably didn't want to deal with that again or go outside the organization and bring in someone they didn't know. I'd have felt better with Fangio to be honest, but we'll see.
Offensive coordinator will be the key hire.
Yeah, CK and the entire offense, and now, defense, is going to be 100% reliant on the coordinators now which is not an ideal situation esp. finding top-notch coordinators this late in the process. It doesn't mean it won't work out but the bottom line is, both offense and defense will now be learning brand new systems, new playbooks, new terminology, players will have new assignments, new training regimens, diets, new techniques to learn, etc. I believe JT will bring the most out of his coaches and players (which is great) but really, at the end of the day, it's going to come down to our coordinators being smarter than the opposition. I don't have much faith in THAT yet not with the coaches we've already retained and brought in (monster drop off). The good news is that the offense can only get better. By how much, we'll see. Defense? They absolutely have to maintain a top 5 defense for us to even have a playoff chance and with the loss of continuity and fantastic coaching and leadership by Fangio and staff, and a switch to a 4-3, I just don't see that happening at all.
I think your list of possibilties here illustrate just how much of a longshot things are going to be. These are a lot of hurdles to overcome. The Niners were supposed to be "this close" to the precipice. They just needed a nudge to get past the tipping point. Instead, this is a system reboot, and almost a restart @ square 1, with already aging roster of stars, numerous free agent departures looming and a suspect ability to replace that lost talent.
