Realistic expectations for me.
I think we can make a play-off run. Offense is going to struggle early on because of a new play-book.
Defense will decide how we do.
I expect a repeat of 2011...except this year the NFC west will be tougher than it was in 2011...so the record won't demonstrate that. If we get Shanny as OC and a solid DC I think 10-11 wins is reasonable.

I wasn't onboard until just now. I live in the Pacific North West, and its Seacock radio on all the sport talk shows. They are all laughing at Tomsula, and playing cuts from his interview, and howling about how we are doomed. I felt myself rallying to his side, contemplating the phone call I would make to shut these ass hats up! Then I realized, I had persuaded my self, that Tomsula might just be okay!

I've warmed up to Jimmy T. I'm excited for the defense and think we're going to see a much more aggressive defense. If we bring in someone like Mike Shanahan or Chud I'll have confidence in the offense.

Great guy, and I like the hire.
I won't like the hire if he's used as the scapegoat for our troubles this next season if they are the same troubles we had this last season. Same troubles means its the players, different coaching should bring different problems and pros to the table, so needless to say, same problems means he shouldn't be the scape goat and the blame better be accurately distributed.

Defensively, I don't think much will change with scheme, strategy, terminology. The defense was broken. Even decimated with injuries, we were a top 5 unit. I am concerned we'll install a position coach (like Donatell) to be DC, who will also be inexperienced from that perspective.

I'm still unsure about the hire. I really wish we could have picked up Matt Wells. He has such strong character.

Is he the guy I wanted? NO!
But now that he is our guy and I'm behind him 100%.
AND we are going to surprise allot of the clone-head media and fair weather fans.
We will be back in the playoffs - book it!

I think we'll be fine. Too much talent for us to be that bad. My fear is that we will become the Cincinnati Bengals of now or the Houston Oilers of the early 90s. Stocked with talent, never winning a playoff game, let alone a championship. Where I stand on the hiring will pretty much boil down to who are the next hires as OC and DC, and the staff they put together. As of yet, the very best candidates have NOT been interviewed, save for Mike Shanahan who is supposedly in play for the OC position. However, they have not hired him yet. Perhaps they are waiting on Rod Chudzinski, who I feel would be a very good hire. However, Mike Shanahan isn't a slouch either, and besides his age and the fear that he may bolt for a head coaching job, I think he could do wonders for Colin Kaepernick, especially considering he would only have to focus on the offense. I really would expect big things because I don't think Mike Shanahan wants to go out the way he did in Washington.
An even bigger fear is if we come with some left field candidate. I'm sorry, at this point, it's not acceptable. If the front office is really interested in winning Super Bowls, right now, with the talent we have right now, then we need to put together another all-star staff on both sides of the ball as well as special teams. If they can do that, then I think this will work out great and Jim Tomsula can play the role of Jimmy Johnson with this team.

Right now I'm pretty positive that Chudzinski is the primary target due to his offensive coaching expertise and former HC experience. I think they 49ers would not be opposed to hiring a successful under the radar college guy for OC. They seem to be looking at younger guys in their 40s right now.

Does anyone know how often in the modern history of the NFL a team has ever hired a HC that was not either a College HC an NFL DC, OC or Special Teams Coach? The only two I can think of are York's hire of Singletary and Tomsula.

Bo is not dumb, he is smart enough to keep quiet even he knows is a complete disastrous hiring. Essentially, those that didn't speak up about the Tomsula hiring are those that think it stinks. And I would argue a good % of those that have spoken positively about the hiring are just sucking up or trying to play company men. Tomsula is a nice guy, I get it, but let's be real here, he just doesn't have an impressive football resume that can warrant him being hired as an NFL head coach.
Then, you look at the ex-player media personalities, apart from Ronnie Lott, who has spoken up about the hiring ? What happened to the usual high profile ESPN analysts like Jerry Rice and Steve Young ? Crickets. I am quite sure they will be saying WTF at home and when they are eventually forced to say something about it, obviously it will be much toned down.
It is what it is, when the hiring is so ridiculous, is hard to even try to say anything positive about it. Even if the hiring were to bear certain unknown qualities such as an Adam Gase or Mike Shanahan, I am sure the players would have at least been able to summon some hopeful comments based on their resumes and past achievements. Whereas with Tomsula, there is just NOTHING that you can latch on to to say this guy is legit, just zilch.
