Since JT confirmed he didn't even consider a QB change, yes it's official. We're in the Dark Ages.
Great choice for a HC, Jed! You got your inexperienced "yes" man who is most likely on his way out after one year.

Ive said it since i joined here (lurked for a decade!) what got me to join??? ---- It starts at the top. If ownership sucks, you know the saying.... it rolls down hill.
Im not out to bash Tomsula at the expense of Harbaugh. I do think it was a stupid move and didn't make any sense, but thats done and he isn't terrible. We have a respectable defense. We all pretty much felt the offense was the question mark from coaching to personnel. We were right and unfortunately its not Tomsulas strength. Its does reflect the Nolan/Singletary era, but these coaches def know defense.
In the end WHO made all these decisions? The owner calls the shots and we have a s**t owner who doesn't garner any respect among his colleagues. I think more respectable coaches and coordinates say no thanks to us, not because of Jimmy T, but the ownership.

BuT t hat isn't a reason to make him a coach
That's not why he was made coach. He was made coach because by all accounts he's an excellent detail oriented technique coach and instructor.
Whether he succeeds as HC or not he's not a Singletary clone. The vitriolic hatred for him by this fan base is shameful at times, to be honest.
I don't hate him. He's a good man, a good father, a good human being. He's just incompetent and way over his head. He was set-up for failure from the get go. That's on his boss, the guy that fired the succesfull coach without having an equally succesful succesor to replace him. It would have been hard to replace the success of the former coach, but come on, how about just someone that can put together a basic game plan and take advantage of the winning culture other guy created.

We are here, no doubt about it.
As to how long it will take us to get out of it? Your guess is as good as mine.
If they could start by firing Baalke, Tomsula and all coaching staff and cutting Kap, we may still have some hope. If not, get ready to get dug in cos we will be here for the long haul.

Yep, the Dark Ages are here again for the 49ers. We need an NFL caliber coaching staff, but even if we had one, our roster is not up to snuff.
Being a good team from 2011-13 was great, but put us in bad draft positions, and the FO didn't get enough out of the positions we were in to make this downfall easier or shorter.
It sucks for us that we didn't take full advantage of the window we had and goes to show that when such windows do come along you better damn well take advantage of them. Other organizations have been able to do so and, to our chagrin, we haven't been able to for the few, brief windows we've had in the past 2+ decades.
The worst part about it is that the ego's of the ownership and the FO take precedence over fielding a winning team. I don't think we'd be Super Bowl caliber with the previous staff at the helm, but we wouldn't be this bad and we'd possibly have more of a light at the end of the downswing tunnel as opposed to absolute darkness.
We must take stock of what talent we have worth keeping on and off the field, and bring in talent at other positions to compliment what we already have.
Otherwise it looks like we're going to continue watching other organizations continue to surpass us, as all we have left is the past to celebrate instead of the future to look forward to.

Yup and the talent is worse than we had at the end of the Nolan era and the whole Sing era.

Yes, York ownership is a problem. But Jed wouldn't have been stupid enough to make the coaching change without his "football guy" telling him that coaches are dispensible. He hired a "football guy" for a reason. And that reason is that his father, just like other meddling owners that don't stay in their lane, are hated because they have no idea what they are doing. The most succesful franchises have a "football guy" in charge.Originally posted by SanDiego49er:We are in the YORK ages. We always were. Jed was just a face man. A front man. Because John York was going to get run out of town. They needed a new stadium and to sell the personal seat licenses. That was the one high paid coach they ever had. They got their stadium and sold the personal seat licenses. Now it's back to low paid YES MEN. This one is even a Ron Jeremy look alike......![]()
The Yorks work in MYSTERIOUS ways.
So who is that "football guy" here in San Francisco? The GM. Turns out the York's "football guy" has been giving him bad advice and running the franchise into the ground. If it was actually Jed that made the decision that Harbaugh had to go, then the GM threw his coach under the bus to save his job by not protesting. That's what happens when you don't have a spine. If he's just a pawn in this, which I doubt he is, then he allowed it to happen, so he is responsible because he didn't play his role as the "football guy" correctly.

Low expectations. Nothing beats them. Remember the good old days of being delighted when we win a game instead of being totally blown out as we expected? I still remember 2006 fondly for this reason. Yes, the Bears, Chiefs and Chargers each dropped a 40-bomb on us, but when Alex found Bryant with that bomb vs the Rams or when we shocked Seattle at home (remember that naked bootleg?), I almost enjoyed it as much as actually being good. Whereas in 2012 and 2013 I was just a bundle of nerves from start to finish, and barely enjoyed those playoff victories.
Then you get gallows humour, probably the best kind of humour. I still am envious of that Bills fan who wrote after we beat them by 30-odd points in '12 "Well, at least I thought we punted really well".
