TDon, Erickson and a 3rd rate team of old men? No.

2003 49ers

I'd take the 2003 season over this year, easily. At least in 03, we actually looked like we were competitive in a game.

The 03 team would destroy this year's team. Hearst would have a field day on the ground.

Can you see this year's team putting 50 points up on anyone?

Don't get me wrong, it's still crap, just slightly better crap.

I doubt it. That roster was aging and there was nothing much coming through to replace the likes of BY and Hearst. That team was only moving in one direction, downwards. This tea. Is on a different trajectory as they gain experience.

The woe is me crowd obviously didn't pay much attention last off season. There was lots of discussion about possibly having a worse W-L record than under Tomdula. Straight your movement,no FA activity. Needing to draft D and OL help would not be flashy picks, and rebuilding an Oline takes time for them to start playing well together. And playing some guys to see what they really had. Not to mention that for many the jury was, and still is, out on Kelly.

I am not holding my breath for a quick turn around. But I am seeing flashes of bright spots... And also where we need to really shire up a couple of key spots.QB of course, and WR. NT and ILB. We need more, but fixing those would give this team a serious change in direction. I want to see one more year of draft and FA before I start comparing this team to the dark ages.

7-9
9th ranked offense
-47 point diff

The 2003 team was way better.

Look at the Tomsula optimism in the first 20 pages of this thread.

Well, this started off as being a comparison with the dark ages. And in 2003 there was just enough ageing ability to cover it up but like I said, nothing coming through. Ahead was 2004 and 2005.

I view us as being in a very different and far better place. We have a young team, a high draft pick and loads of cap space. All we had in '04 was a reasonable pick.

This franchise is dead until they get a quarterback. It's that simple.

Are we "headed" back to the dark ages? Where have you been? We have already been back for almost 2 years now.

Not until we fire Baalke, Kelly and finally draft some decent players, we ain't coming out of it anytime soon.
Were in the middle of the darkness.
Who said that? Where are you?

The franchise is dead until they get a knowledgeable, professional, experienced and powerful Head of Football Operations and Jed and the Yorks step down and simply write the checks. Nothing short of this is going to turn this around. The source of the dysfunction is at the very top.
