It's gonna take Jed having a Mark Davis moment, firing EVERYONE and starting with a GM who knows what the f**k he's doing. AND STAYING THE f**k OUT OF HIS WAY! As he builds from the ground up........
We need to overpay for a GM worth his salt.

The dark ages, to me at least, was when the salary cap crippled our ability to sign and keep talent. We had so much dead money for a few years that we had to purge our roster of talent and not try to keep anyone decent. That was bad.
These years are more we need one player here or one there sort of thing. I think we can win with chip's offense but oneil has to go. I am not opposed to replacing chip but I wouldn't mind keeping him either. We need a QB, WRs, maybe a TE, we need a DE capable of getting pressure, a legit NT if we stay in this 3-4, multiple OLBs to replace Tank, Eli just because they aren't good, lynch because he is soft against the run and disappears for long stretches in trying to get pressure and Brooks eventually when he retires. We need two ILBs if we stay in a 3-4.
I really think we are closer to a 4-3 right now than a 3-4. If we switch to a 4-3 run under a competent DC, we need less pieces than trying to fix our 3-4.
My reasoning for a 4-3 with these guys as our base the next few years:
Addition by subtraction. Under a 4-3, purcel, dial and TJE lose snaps. This benefits the defense by keeping them off of the field. We start:
Ronald Blair DE
Defo DT
AA DT
lynch, brooks, tank or move AA or Defo out here in rotation and put any of our scrubs inside.
OLB's brooks, Armstrong (next year), Eli or Tartt (we already use tartt in a similar role) move tartt out in obvious passing downs. (cardinals are doing this with a safety)
We are hurting at ILB, only the draft or FA will fix this.
Under this circumstance, (we use this lineup in our pass defense at times already) we only need to draft a pass rushing top end DE to play opposite of blair and a decent d line starts to emerge.
DE Ron Blair
DT AA
DT Defo
DE lynch / draft stud DE
OLB - brooks/ draft (brooks is a capable starter)
OLB - armstrong/ draft (armstong is a capable starter)
ILB - draft or FA
We draft a DE and an ILB and we have a legit front 7.
If we stay under a 3-4.
hope defo and AA start to 2 gap better.
Draft or sign a NT
Draft or sign 2-3 NFL OLBs (difficult to find late in late rounds)
Draft or sign 2 ILBs.
Draft or sign a pass rushing DE/DT for nickle situations
There are more holes in a 3-4 than the 4-3 right now moving forward.

The franchise is dead until they get a knowledgeable, professional, experienced and powerful Head of Football Operations and Jed and the Yorks step down and simply write the checks. Nothing short of this is going to turn this around. The source of the dysfunction is at the very top.
This franchise is dead until Yorks stop acting like the Mean Girls.

Not until we fire Baalke, Kelly and finally draft some decent players, we ain't coming out of it anytime soon.

Mark Davis changed his and his father's ways and now they are on the rise.

Since the 50's we've had dark ages every decade, except the 80's.

You are so right on here. The answer to Jed's dilemma is staring him in the face just across the bay. We can only hope he has a sliver of humility and an inkling of the capacity for self honesty. Honestly I'm not sure. Arrogance and ignorance are a deadly mix.
