love sparano on the staff. rathman is great. not sure about Geep.

i like mangini, he did well with an aging, dying defense in NE and ran solid units with little talent in Cle and NYJ
really like tarver (great young mind, future DC if mangini gets another HC gig)
pendergast and lewis are veterans with DC experience as position coaches.

whats not to like?

Thats the way I see it also a very talented staff. The only question mark is JT. We will find out.

to me the bigger question mark is geep. tomsula is a defensive guy which makes OC the biggest position to fill (just like the most important position for harbaugh was DC)

"You have to feel for Jim Tomsula right now. He takes over for a man who led the 49ers to three straight NFC Championship Games, and is expected by management to lead this team back over the 8-8 hump. San Francisco might be lucky to go 8-8 this year. Aging wide receivers (ifMichael Crabtree is gone), possibly no Frank Gore, possibly no Vernon Davis, no Justin Smith, and the hope that NaVorro Bowman can return to 2013 form. Oh, and then there's the unreliable Aldon Smith. Step into a slim win column, Jim."

Pretty negative stuff from Elliott Harrison

Does not bother me at all. Almost wish that he had us ranked lower.

That question mark happens to be the HC. (I'm hopeful, but not confident)

Also, Mangini was an unusual hire. Bright guy, but not particularly liked in league circles.

Logan sounds interesting as QB coach, but who knows how successful he'll be. He's had one job (as RB coach) in the NFl and been out of coaching altogether for three years.

Geep is definitely a head-scratcher. Really hoping he pulls through and does a good job (against the odds given his resume)
meh fangio had a s**tty resume before he took over our talent.
you see what geep worked with in SD? the fact that they wren't last in all offensive categories is a plus in my book lol. that being said, if the rumors were true i would have loved to get shanny.

cant blame chud for staying with luck especially since its assumed pep gets an HC gig soon and chud would likely be next in line to coach luck

but quite frankly i have trust in trent. i'm happy the GM is running the show and he will keep us as contenders for a long time

Well, there are certainly things to like - but it's a far from proven staff.

Mangini actually struggled as DC in NE and had ordinary defenses in both CLE and NY.
Did his defenses win Super Bowls?

I agree. I think the pressure of trying to win all these years when we knew we were the best team with the most pro bowlers, I think it added to our difficulties. A year away from the playoffs, with new coaches and lowered expectations might free up tension and allow us to get to where we want to be.

mangini coached the pats at the end of the dynasty when their guys were done and burried. he had no secondary, aging, slow lb's.

and he had ordinary defenses in cleveland and NY with horrible talent.
took s**t and made it respectable in those two cities. you dont have a top defense with marginal talent. even BB in NE had some s**tty defenses when he had s**tty players

The one year Mangini was the DC in NE (2005) they ranked 26th for yards allowed.

In 2004 (before he was DC) they ranked 9th

In 2006 (after he was gone) they ranked 6th

I do agree that the talent we have on D should help Mangini - but we want a guy getting the best out of our players. I hope he bucks his trend of underachieving defenses.

Mangini, who won three Super Bowls with the Patriots, turned down defensive coordinator positions with the Miami Dolphins, Oakland Raiders and Cleveland Browns before accepting the role with New England in 2005.[7] Underachieving?

You meen the same coach who described how to beat the seattle def. the week before the superbowl and then we got to watch new englands off. exicute the same strategy. Didnt sound like he had missed a step in that interview.
Our defense should be stout again.

We desoerately need chryst and tomsula to fix the offense.

That just sounds sad lol.

Sure, he sounds good on the radio. But why has he never coached QBs at an NFL level before? He's 62 years old...
