"If you aren't getting better, you're getting worse"
- Jim Harbaugh

Sort of sums it up. Over-simplifies it some, but the general point stands. The offense, his primary responsibility, got worse.

It will be interesting to see if the offense improves. Kap's quote about Chryst being receptive to player input MAY be suggestive to Harbaugh's stubbornness. At any rate, we have new coaching leadership for our favorite team. They have my complete support. When the games start, they will have most of yours, too.

Back in the summer Juergen Klinsmann talked about the issue with american sports is the tendency to pay someone for what they have done instead of what they are going to do. Every commentary on Harbaugh brings up his record. Problem is that had already happened. What actual improvement on the field did the 9ers show to make anyone think year 5 was going to be a sb contender? So because people have nothing they go back to what he had done. Being incapable to adapt is a huge flaw and it would've killed the 2016 49ers IMO.

Tomsula may fail horribly but moving on from Harbaugh was still the right move.

So should we cut Vernon? What did he do last year to show that he is improving or continuing to play at a high level? I think 1 year can be an oddity. 2 years in a row and I may start to believe you. Brutal injuries and a FO hell bent on throwing you under the bus can make for a tough year.

Well the good news is that he's been here for 2+ years now and got promoted. So that's a good sign. With the amount of drama this FO had to deal with, the last thing they want to do is elevate another Drama-King to a position of authority.

Didn't Mangini actually get fired as TE coach before getting the DC gig? Strange way to go about things.

I guess my only real concern right now is whether Mangini learned anything from his disastrous relationships with players when he was HC in Cleveland. I'm hoping he doesn't alienate the defensive players.

Yes!

Plus be around a good culture is always a good thing (despite the recent drama / divorce) and he's aged quite a bit from his HC days and what not (more mature)

I liked that quote (Harbs had good ones), but it's a lot easier preached than practiced. Perhaps that was one quote he didn't practice hard enough

Is vernon in charge of the team or is he just a player playing? Why would we cut Vernon when he wasn't being used properly?

The injuries destroyed the defense but they still were able to push on because of scheme and coaching.

the offense was decimated by injuries and shut down and especially in the 2nd half's against teams that had no business competing with us.

remember we actually picked off eli 5 times and were a goal line stand away from LOSING that game.

Mangini? I don't believe so. I think he interviewed with Oakland for the DC position. Chose to stay with us for the same role.

Brutal injuries on DEFENSE? Wait, I'm confused I thought we were talking about the O.

I was talking about wins not sure what you were talking about. Losing a RT for most of the season, C for the entire season, Vernon to labiatis, Boone to fatness, change of pace back doesn't really help the offense either.

So that was kinda my point ... Davis was seriously underutilized before the injury. The OL was bad before Kilgore was hurt and Boone was still sucking it up far into mid season. Compared to the defense, the offense didn't have "brutal injuries". The defense played the whole season without arguably it's best player, played half the season without arguably two of it's best players after that, lost it's best player in the secondary to off and on injury yet still did well. If I were to compare this to the offense it would have been like playing the entire season without Staley, part of the season without Boldin and half a season without Kap. Hunter was lost in the off season but didn't Eric Wright who played pretty good last season retire? Yeah I think the D can say "brutal injuries" the offense has no excuse for their production other than ... well, we all know who it was.....

Cool story bro.

LOL! Read House of Cards or some of the other books about Fortune 500 companies that went through management changes. American Express might have a record on the number of books written about their changes.

Really good book dtg_9er!!!

Sure, sure. The offensive line was in GREAT shape all season long! And Vernon Davis? 100%!

how does the injury excuse forgive the coaches for setting young talent and steve johnson while playing miss lloyd and lining up miller and staley as wide outs? how does the injury excuse forgive the fullback dive time and time again? how does the injury excuse forgive the fact that for four years a supposed elite nfl coaching staff could never figure out a nfl playclock, time outs and challenges???? how does the injury excuse forgive the fact that the supposed elite nfl coaching staff would time and time run away from the run when it was the only thing that was working?
