Worst offseason ever. BUT, the one thing I take solace in is that the 49ers are now HUGE underdogs. WEveryone will be underestimating us/expecting us to suck (i sort of do too). But there is FU mode and huge nobody believes in us potential where we could be the surprise team in the playoffs, which is a huge departure from the last 3 years when every team was gunning for us

I got one: how low expectations are NOW! Thank you Jed and Trent! Geniuses!
By taking a consistent superbowl contender and ripping the head of the coaching staff, the sheer brazeness of the action (which is clearly against the best interests of the team) have so horrified and shocked the fan base that fan expectations have dropped from superbowl or bust (York's stated expectation when firing Harbaugh, which he is already back pedaling from) to "it's been a good 2015 if the 49ers DON'T own the #1 pick in 2016).
Truth is, this roster gets a bit weaker every year that the roster gets further away from being a McCloughan roster and closer to a Baalke roster. My guestimate is that in 2015 we are around average overall talent 8-8. We now have a decidedly average coaching staff, coaching decidedly average players. The predicted outcome of the mediocre matching would be 8-8 with random outcomes of close games putting the prediction of our actual record between 6-10 and 10-6. New coaching staffing should bring fresh energy that can win an extra game or two early in the season, pushing us to the upper end of this range. So, 9-7 or 10-6 is a very realistic outcome for Tomusula's first season.
The Jed and Trent genius is that homers will now call 9-7 or 10-6 a great outcome and validation for firing Harbaugh. They will point out that it's a better record that Harbaugh last season, conveniently ommitting the fact that the last season was marred by injuries and negative news leaks on a scale never seen in football history. They will conveniently ignore, you know, the other 3 seasons where we contended for a superbowl. They will most certainly ignore Jed's superbowl or bust declaration. A 9-7 or 10-6, will give Jed and York and those stretching for hope, all they need to say 2016 is really THE year. One more "reload" to "push us over the top", maybe we will even resurrect "being a bully". And most importantly, Jed and Trent will feel less threatened, more appreciated, and most importantly, more credited with the "success" of the team. And they will take a 9-7 that they get credit for, over a 13-3 where they don't.
I wholeheartedly feel what Robert stated in that looooong ass post (lol) is exactly what will happen. However, I have to agree w the og CC, wrong thread dude, theres a place for that.

The purpose of this thread is to give people who just want to discuss football without having some idiot leaping in and acting like a Seahawks "supporter" trolling the thread. To be fair there is another thread where those who feel bad about the future can talk.

Soooo, Vegas has us around 20/1 odds to win the Superbowl (which is basically, a top 5 or 10 team) despite all the coaching changes. They see what we see in here; a very talented and deep team that despite large changes on the coaching staff, "retooling" is really, all this team needs.

We are reliant on the new coaching team clicking and not going full Roman. On this season's injury record being way better than last (please). On a couple of impact players either through the draft or FA. That doesn't look like a lot to me. Oh, and the luck that every Super Bowl winner needs. And Kaepernick returning to form.
I remain confident.

Yes! Honestly, I've been a little at a loss to explain why there is so much "certainty" around here that next season will be bad. Come on. Even if they don't get Justin Smith to return, they've got Willis, Bowman, Dorsey and Williams coming back and probably at 100%. Add the possibility that Mangini will call more imaginative blitz packages with this group and the Niners could very well have a top-5 defense again next year.
On offense, you've got to like what Kaepernick is doing to fix his game. I see no downside to any of that. They really should have more continuity of the offensive line this season; couldn't get any worse on that front.
I can easily imagine a team with just as good a defense and a lot better offense - that team makes the playoffs.

1. Run the ball on offense
2. Up the Pass Rush on defense

Listen, we saw what happened to Seattle when they lost just one WR in FA (Tate) and one Nickle CB (Lane) in the Superbowl. They ended up with Ricardo Lockette starting instead of Golden Tate and the Pats went right after that hole for a TD between the CB and S spot after Lane went out. Now, imagine how they'd do with 18 players on I.R.; starting players; significant players. The fact that we still ended up top 5 on defense and beat a playoff team in week 17 despite horrendous coaching to finish 8-8 is downright remarkable on many levels...players, literally, willing themselves to victories.
2015: Now add health. Now add the draft. Now add FA. Now add enthusiasm. Now subtract drama. Now add coaching specialists like Logan and so many others now who are best at teaching players and paying very close attention to details. Now add CK's off season work. Now add in-house coaches like Tomsula, Mangini and Geep who've been here the past 2+ years and who know our personnel and can learn from mistakes made by Harbaugh, Roman and even Fangio.
Remain close to top 5 on defense and raise the points per game from 25th to 15th? Look out! If this team catches momentum towards the end of the season and remains healthy, we're knocking on the door of the NFCCG and Superbowl again.

Easily! I appreciate what the defensive staff did for us over the past four years, but to think this group of players can't be even better is being myopic. With a slightly more aggressive blitz game to help out the DBs the team can continue to be a top five defense. As for the offense--why on earth would anyone assume they couldn't improve? Chryst may have been held back by Roman and Harbaugh, and adding Logan should help Kaepernick and the receivers greatly. He coached the Berlin teams QBs and WRs when they were first in the league two years in a row. The year after he left they fell to sixth. It's not an equivalent league, obviously, but it was competition between equal level teams.

I was thinking the same thing. Losing Ted Ginn jr. and then CJ Spillman and Boobie Dixon really hurt our ST.

With the exception of the 3-headed media haters, you get the sense, MB, MM and the others are actually looking forward to writing some positive pieces. MB already started a few weeks ago.
