Just like some of you I'm not high on CJ. I think he is what he is. A career back up. I don't think he's awful but limited in arm strength. I want to be positive with him now in there but just given the fact that our defense is putrid and the injuries keep mounting up I can't see us winning more than 3 games. I guess that's a positive in regards to draft position.

Not really

Huh?

If your judge of arm strength is "Can he throw 50 yards?", then sure... his arm is fine. The question should be "How long does it take for him to throw 50 yards?". That is, undoubtably, below average.

We can root for CJ without making stuff up.

What exactly am I making up?

He is absolutely "limited" in arm strength. It was his knock coming in. It was his knock last season. And it was his knock during the preseason.

Yes. CJ Beathard can throw the ball long enough. No, he can not do it with any strength. How is this even open to debate?

It's a debate because I disagree. He's slow to diagnose, doesn't have a quick release and doesn't have much finesse but that doesn't mean he is limited with actual arm strength.

"better arm than expected when you really sit down and study him"

"Beathard's arm is very good, as he can make the majority of NFL throws."

The only positive thing I can muster up is the fact that CJ (who seems like a real good dude) gets another shot at making a name for himself. I wish him the beat and hopefully he does well enough to at least win all our home games!

Perhaps Beathard plays well enough that he'll have trade value. If he proves of value then, as a quarterback, the selection might be a high one. Mullens then can take over 2nd string next season.
All this talk about Beathard's limitations isn't going to solve anything...judging his rookie performance to what he might be able to do now is apples & oranges. Matt Ryan struggled in his 1st year under Shanahan...he's a Pro Bowl QB. Give CJ a chance in his 2nd year to do what they drafted him to do...be a credible b/u to whomever the starter is. The OL is evolving...3 new starters & it'll take awhile for them to jell. The running attack's pretty solid with Morris & Breida. He's got some credible receivers. Let's see what CJ can do...

Lol
We're Mike Nolaning, Singletaring it. At some point all those top picks and good cap space will be beneficial.

Man, I'm loving this positivity . CJ will be okay if he improved his diagnosing skills and Shanny will probably help now that CJ has a better grasp of the playbook. That td play definitely gives us hope. Thats gotta be fr**kin hard to pull off as a backup. It's our defense that's gonna get torched.

In the NFL, you gotta roll with what you got. Really hoping CJ can show much improvement in Year 2 in Shanahan's offense. Maybe watching the games Jimmy played in and just being around him, in the film room, etc., has helped CJ more than we know (along with now having a better grasp of the offense). We know being around Belichick & Brady really helped Jimmy's development...he's taken what he's learned and not only applied it to his own game but I'm sure he's relayed a lot of things to CJ to help him along and will continue to do so. We'll see, but CJ's what we have now at QB and we must hope for the best.
2 good positives here; beathard turns out to be legit aka trade bait or at worst a good caliber backup where we don't cancel the season if jimmy gets hurt again. Or we suck getting a chance for a game changer in the 1st with opportunities to take another starter in the 2nd and maybe 3rd like Warner
Higher draft picks.

we'll finally get a legit edge rusher in the draft. Unless the Bears and Rams sit out their starters at the end of the season.
1) C.J. develops into a starring caliber QB and the offense averages 24 pts/gm and the real weakness of the team is exposed (defense)
2) Jimmy G hype is over

No chance the Bears are in position to do that, maybe the Rams though.
