You're talking to the wrong guy about these concerns lol
I thought that Jimmy G's skill set would keep the team at the very least competitive. Now we are back to where we were last year at this time. Let's not make the mistake of signing vets coming back from serious injury that breakdown after a few games. Let's go all in on Pettis, Lynch played on some great defensive teams, I'm sure he has some thoughts on what it takes to build a defense. Saleh doesn't seem ready to call the shots on defense, find somebody that can in the offseason. The silver lining is Coach Shanahan and his play calling that will put players in a position to make plays.

i think there were lots of people who thought . foolishly. alot of our issues pre jimmy were fixed because we won five in a row. they really did not believe it and now after the injury. they are going back to a place they were before jimmy. i do not think our team was that great in the first place. i always said 7 wins maybe 8, but i think one reason people are venting with frustration cuz they may be able to see all the pain waiting up ahead they thought they were leaving behind

No, with Jimmy this team had a legit shot. He may not have been playing like he was in 2017, but he was playing well enough to get us a win last week. I don't think CJ can get us the same kind of offensive production that Jimmy had, we shall see, but the way CJ was playing in pre-season, I dont' think he's improved much over last year.
Hopefully nobody else gets hurt and they hit a home run with the first round pick.....

Silver Lining:

Next year Jimmy Garoppolo under center with a backfield of a more experienced Matt Breida and Jet McKinnon in the open field terrorizing linebackers. Juice blocking for both backs and also a safety net for Jimmy if the opposing team somehow finds a way to cover the RBs.

We really didn't see Jimmy with Marquise Goodwin this year, but what we saw in the KC game opened up the field for the rest of the offense. Remains to be seen who will be on the opposite field of Marquise, but I am confident that Dante Pettis will be a very good receiver. We'll still have Trent Taylor and Richie James in the slot. Jimmy seemed to really target George Kittle in the 3 games this season. So far he was targeted by Jimmy 20 times this season, extrapolate that number over a season it becomes 107 targets, so I expect Kittle to be dynamic in this offense next year when defenses will be struggling to figure out how to guard all of the RBs out of the backfield Marquise on a go route, Dante Pettis working the outside, and Kittle streaking over the middle. We have 3/5 of a line, but clearly need to upgrade the guard positions and find a future replacement for the great Joe Staley.

So far this defense has struggled this season, but there are pieces to it that are very intriguing. In the trenches we have one of the best defensive linemen in the league in DeForest Buckner and he's still getting better. There are some very good complementary pieces in Sheldon Day, DJ Jones, and Julian Taylor. Next year, we'll see what we have in Kentavius Street. The linebacker corps is where we're looking very good at in the future. The tandem of Fred Warner as MLB and Reuben Foster at WLB for the forseeable future has me very excited. Obviously there are some things to be down on, but this is the silver lining thread.

- If the 49ers end up as bad as most of us seem to believe, then we probably end up with a top 5 pick.

- Thinking about our full team next year and depending how the rest of this year shapes up for our division it's arguable that we may be better than both AZ and SEA. That's 4 games right there. Also, if we end up last in our division then we play the last place team in the NFC East and the NFC North. We also play the NFC South and the AFC North, so teams like the Bucs, Browns, and Bengals. So, we MAY have an easier schedule, relatively speaking.

- Cap room for next year will be $65,456,149 according to Jason Hurley via LINK. If we can use this cap space to lure some free agents and plug up some of our defensive deficiencies and guard positions then we'll be a better team going forward.

- Free Agents / Draft: A premier edge rusher and another to come in on obvious passing situations, a SAM linebacker to go along with Foster and Warner, somehow fix the secondary and complete the restoration of the OLINE.

Silver lining is next year we come back as a more experienced team, an upgraded team, a more complete and healthy team.

Best thing is next year there will be absolutely 0 hype. Nobody is gonna pick us to do s**t and hopefully with an improved roster that will allow us to sneak up on teams. Nothing good is ever going to happen if our luck stays the same as it's been for the last 4 or 5 years tho.

Depends....

if we get the #1 pick. Draft Nick Bosa. And get on Hard Knocks. There might be hype and expectations again. Like with the Browns. I see a lot of odd expectations for them for some reason. Its 100% because of Baker Mayfield.
Having a winning formula with a charismatic coach who would have worked things out in a hurry when the team started going backwards. Then bring in a grunt followed by a coach that was thrown under the bus by a GM that was exposed. You get what you deserve.

This is s very refreshing post and kind of where I am at now. Even better is they should actually have $80mil+ in cap space next year ...I think I am factoring in potential cuts like Garcon, Mitchell, Gilliam etc

Excellent post you covered everything! One thing I would add is I think our safeties going forward will be really good although they underperformed so far this year.
