Pass per game - 248.7
Rush per game - 131.2
Record (99-34)

Steve Young (1991 thru 1999)
Points per game - 27.4
Yards per game - 376.6
Pass per game - 248.1
Rush per game - 128.5
Record (84-30)

Take note that these numbers are for games they started and doesn't really take in account if they got hurt or sat some plays out. For the most part though I feel like it kinda captures what we were lucky to see for almost 20 years.

'79 and '80 felt like 2017 and 2018 to me. The offense was moving, but the team was snakbit with regards to blowing leads and so on. Same like the last two years. Then in '81 we traded for Fred Dean. This year we traded for Dee Ford *and* got Bosa. Keep in mind - '1979 was our greatest draft ever!

And I think getting Jimmy will, sooner or later, go down in 49er history as one of the best, if not the best trades in 49er land. Getting Joe and getting Jimmy all happened in both Kyle's and Walsh's first years - wierd conincidence, but I think destiny calls. Specially with the Warriors now on the Wane, time for the 49ers to wax!

Definitely 1990. Definitely 1992. I think if we win that game vs. Atlanta in 1995, we go to the SB and win. As much as I love the 1998 team (it really is one of my favorite non-SB winning teams), I'm not so certain they beat Denver that year.
one reason is cuz they ignored the running back game after ricky left. and they let the defense get old and slow

Definitely. Ricky Watters was the key. Young and Rice's greatness kept the offense near the top with no running game, but we couldn't consistently compete with the top teams. I think how well we did in 1995 made the front office beleven we were fine without Watters. By the time they realized the mistake after the 96 season and got Hearst, it was too late.

man,, we went years with young as our best running back.,, looking back. that is crazy sad. terry kirby helped a bit in 96 but those two years with loville to adam walker were killers

I hope so....I just want to see what it looks like with relatively good health. I have zero doubts that a top 10 or better offense is more than doable.
No question those 80's and early 90's teams were our best ever. I was there for every game and knew when it ended that we would probably never see another run like that. Let's not forget some of the great players we had in the 50's, 60's and 70's. The niners were nearly always competitive but there always seemed to be at least on team better. Look at the guys we put in the HOF from that era. Y.A. Tittle, Bob St. Clair, Joe Perry, Hugh McElhenny, Jimmy Johnson, Leo Nomellini and Dave Wilcox were all players I would love to have on my team even today. All of those guys played together for years except Wilcox but still couldn't win the title. That's more famers on one team than even the 80's teams had. This team has a great history that extends all the way back to it's beginnings.

Wilcox and jimmy were together for a few years i think. i just came along in 71 when we got real good for a few years. the cowboys were that one team better than us. i do love me some monte clark gold rush 76 team
Have to disagree that the teams of the '80s and '90's were our best ever. They were our best ever in the NFL. Thankfully I'm old enough to have seen the AAFC teams of the 1940's. For that four year period, they were 39-15-2. In 1948, the Niners scored 495 pts in a 14 game season (ave 35.4 per game) and in 1949, Niners scored 416 pts in a 12 game season (34.7). Both years they lost in the Championship game to the Cleveland Browns who were the best team in football including the NFL. Their first year in the NFL, the Browns won the title. They had the best QB of the day at the time and one of the greatest in history, Otto Graham who played 10 seasons and never lost more than 4 games in any season.

My favorite game in history was on my 7th birthday in 1949, when the 49ers put it on the champion Cleveland Browns at Kezar (56-28). Frankie Albert outplayed Graham by throwing 5 TD passes and Joe Perry rushed for 155 yards on only 16 carries as the Niners racked up 505 yards of offense before a packed house. Those memories have lasted almost a lifetime. This team has always been exciting and explosive.

There is a fantastic video that captures the Niner history INCLUDING the early days. See McElhenny break away without a helmet, watch John Henry Johnson and Joe Perry steamroller defenders, see Leo Nomellini almost decapitate a Ram QB, and Hardy Brown lay a guy out. Really worth watching. Download it and save it to your own computer. It's a collector's item. ENJOY! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmgpSkFMYsE

A very memorable game imo. Young VS Elway, Rice's return from ACL surgery, Montana's special night, Merton Hanks' pick 6, Romo spitting on JJ stokes. So many people felt this was a potential super bowl preview.

As much as I love the 1998 team, Atlanta and Minnesota usurped the top spots by 98. This game was one of the last with that "elite model franchise" feel to it, especially with Eddie stepping away.

Al Michaels, Gifford and Diedorf actually speak about the state of flux of the franchise because of Eddie in depth throughout the game. It's kind of eerie when watching it 22 years later, realizing it was foreshadowing
Niners about to make history.

That 1997 defense

If only the offense wasn't so stagnant that year. 97 would've been Lombardi number 6

No. Because 87 should have been #3. Making 97 #7.
