Jerry Rice did what?!?!?!

I don't care if Jerry Rice used Stickum in his career, Stickum is not the reason he is considered the GOAT wide receiver. Yes, and I'm saying this as a Pats fan. What I do take issue with is that someone who is highly respected in the sports world took the stand that the Patriots were cheating and deserve asterisks next to their wins. I know Jerry Rice was talented, had a lot of heart and worked hard to become what he was, but so hasn't Tom Brady. He studies, trains, works hard, talented and has heart and a love for the game.

As for spygate. I am surprised at how many people don't actually know what happened here and what was going on at the time. to quote former Cowboy coach Jimmy Johnson-"This is exactly how I was told to do it 18 years ago by a Kansas City Chiefs scout. I tried it, but I didn't think it helped us."..."Bill Belichick was wrong because he videotaped signals after a memo was sent out to all of the teams saying not to do it. But what irritates me is hearing some reactions from players and coaches. These players don't know what their coaches are doing. And some of the coaches have selective amnesia because I know for a fact there were various teams doing this. That's why the memo was sent to everybody. That doesn't make [Belichick] right, but a lot of teams are doing this."'

Belichick ignored the memo because he thought a memo wasn't the actual rule. A rule needs to be voted on and put in the book. It's not illegal to tape a live game, but it was illegal to try and tape others on the opposing sidelines to use as an advatage DURING the game. Belichick waasn't using the tapes while making calls, he studied them to prepare for another game in the future. His charge was the position of the camera. The spying was the same view that everyone else could see from the sidelines.

The everyone else was doing it excuse is what Belichick said. Now Jerry Rice is using the same.

It's obvious Brady proved himself with regulation balls. And it's obvious Jerry Rice's HoF career wasn't because he used Stickum. But after he tried to taint the Patriot's legacy, a lot of people are mad...not because of Stickum, but because of hypocrisy.

That is a shame then. Where I live you run a red light the camera takes your pic you pay the ticket. I want the same for the NFL. You get caught you pay the penalty. Rice said he ran the light years later but he wasn't caught so he can't pay the ticket. Brady Bellicheck and Kraft can.

I call Jerry a hypocrite as well but I am saying if you cheat which everyone does but you are caught you should pay up. I want no favorites played 49ers or not. I don't revoke NE titles or records but I do want fair discipline for all. No favorites! No buddy deals like Goodell did for Bisciotti and the Ravens with Ray Rice. Mete out punishment with consistency

I would be all for it if it's fair play throughout the NFL, but it's not. Did you know the reason Deflategate happened is because the GM of the Colts called the NFL during the game to complain that Patriots had an underinflated football? Never in the history of the NFL have balls been investigated during half time. Then these "sources" come out...the first to an Indinappolis beat writer. Then to Mortensen. Mortensen reported that 11 or 12 footbalss were 2 PSI under. Then started the national media frenzy. I mean, the freakin Today show was trying to analyse this! People like Jerry Rice put them down. Troy Aikman gave a teary-eyed performance about integrity and the tainted Partiot legacy...over deflated frekin footballs. Which in the rule book is a $25,000 fine. It doesn't make much of a difference in the game...just like Stickum. And Aaron Rogers likes his overinflated, but we don't see a firestorm about that.

Then we learn a little about PSI and science, and that the original report wasn't true. Only ONE ball was 2 PSI under...the one the Colts happened to intercept and turned in. Hmmmm. A few were about 1 PSI under and the rest, just a few ticks below.

If the NFL wants to start investigating the league, go right ahead, but yes, I agree, be fair and don't play favorites. Using the Patriots as the cheating poster child and example is not fair either.

Thanks for the outside opinion. I agree with everything you've said 100%. I think Rice and Belichick should be held morally accountable if they deliberately did things that were against the rules, but I don't think it taints their accomplishments at all. New England gets it especially bad; even after SpyGate they were still a dominant team. You'd have to be pretty naive to believe that something like that or deflating footballs was the reason for their success.

I ain't about revoking NE accomplishments nor Rice. I am about if you cheat and get caught you pay up. The report will come out for those balls and they don't deflate themselves for one team and not the other. If they were IF, then someone did it and NE should pay up. If the report is true they were caught I want punishment. We got hit with Aldon so I want to see the same throughout if any infraction occurs. Don't play favorites. Everyone cheats somehow but they should be held accountable is what I'm saying. Let people talk all they want but punishment is what I want to see if cheating is found

The point i was making is that there is no proof, but people attacking before the investigation is over. No one said the Colts balls didn't deflate at all. If theirs were 13.5 at the start and the Patriots 12.5, then if the Colts went down to 12.6, it would still be within regulation. We have none of the stats on everyball measure before, during, or after.

You don't find it strange that the only ball that was 2 PSI under was the ones the Colts turned in to the NFL?

If the investigation finds them guilty, then I agree, pay the fine. But make catching the person equal. If you're gonna set up a camera for everyone who speeds or runs a red light...do it for all, not just the Patriots.

And people would have to be pretty naive to think that stupid Stickum spray is the reason Jerry Rice was an amazing record breaking wide receiver. There is so much rule bending, competitive edge "cheating" that goes on all throughout the NFL, two weeks ago Hugh Millen said that a super bowl winning team...not Pats...that he once played for, the coach actually made speakers and put into the helmets so the offensive linemen could hear and get instructions. They did this every game and supposedly in a game like the Super Bowl.

But did the media go crazy with that? No. And they are the ones using the Pats as an example on why there needs to be "integrity" in the NFL...because of defalted footballs! lololol

Can we put an asterisk on every team that won a superbowl that was caught in a violent crime, steroid/HGH use, criminal act, substance abuse, stealing signals, tapping other teams communications, held but was never called for it? Every team in the history of football has played with less than stellar character guys, has done something outside or blurred in the rule book, and has done something shady to win . Every Superbowl could come with an asterisk.

I cant stand Florio. He's literally the only person trumpeting this BS. Hes posted multiple snitch articles saying "Why isnt Rice on the front page of NFL.com and ESPN? Why are only the Patriots being criticized? Rice is a cheater! Look at me! Look at me everyone!"

Hes always been a Niner hater.
I thought he got a DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE in '96 from a mama-san in Plao Alto?
IMO his biggest mistake was putting it out there for everyone to see and not caring about how it may influence younger players
