Here's the actual rule:

The official rule is on page 34 of the NFL Rule Book, and reads that prohibited substances include: "Adhesive, Slippery Substances -- (i) Adhesive or slippery substances on the body, equipment, or uniform of any player; provided, however, that players may wear gloves with a tackified surface if such tacky substance does not adhere to the football or otherwise cause handling problems for players."

There might be a gray area here that Rice slips through.

I say we go with The Chewbacca Defense.

+1 Admitting this was so unnecessary.

yeah wtf? Does he have a guilty conscious? I seriously don't get it. Jerry just needs to stop talking.
winning with class
Does this even matter? Big deal over nothing, imo. Not sure why Jerry would say that to begin with. All it does is open the door for stupid people to sensationalize what he said and blow it out of proportion.

Everybody used stick'em or some other substance back in the day. Wasn't it Fred Biletnikoff who was practically drenched head to toe in the stuff? He's got an award named after him and people just laugh it off. But when Jerry used it, oh no, what a travesty. Give me a break.

I agree, it's not a big deal. However, I feel that way about a lot of of issues (e.g. Deflategate).

I don't think this diminishes Jerry's accomplishments at all. However, I do agree with the sentiment that Rice is a complete and utter moron. Every time he opens his mouth he sounds like an idiot. He is arrogant, he has an inferiority complex, and he's just generally annoying; all of those qualities probably contributed and fueled him to being the greatest receiver ever, but that doesn't make him any more likable.
meh.

ooooo..kayyyyy.....

athletes cheat all the time to gain an edge. majority of athletes use performance enhancers in one form or the other. how is this news I don't get.
Bill Walsh cheated too. Having the opponent's headsets go out right as the game started so they couldn't adjust to the 15-20 scripted plays.

Every team will do what is needed to get an edge. The teams that probably don't cheat: Jacksonville.
