Six sounds about right. Three offensive linemen, two defensive linemen and one defensive secondary.

Maybe just a QB. If Kaep improves over 2013, I do not see how we are not contenders..... unless our coaching staff is that bad, but I will give them the benefit of the doubt for now...

This.
Three less games of wear, tear and playing injured because every game counts in the playoffs.
The benefit to all those season ending injuries during the season? They are months ahead of everyone waiting until the offseason to get surgery or having to avoid it ( a la Richard Sherman or our own Patrick Willis with his toe in previous years) because they won't be ready by training camp.

Well we already have a whole new coaching staff. Might as well pair them up with a whole new roster.

Yes we are one rapid WR and PR plus (maybe, depending on health)one OL away from SB. But let's face it. Our chances at the SB ride on one big thing:
How our new QB coach does with Kap and also how our OC coach does with Kap. We can have deficiencies on the OL and coach around it, something that never occurred to our dearly departed HC and OC. Hell, NE does that all the time. Bellichek coaches around deficiencies, Even better he coaches lesser grade talent up to where it looks like first rd talent when it was not.
Our immediate future for a SB is good, really good...depending on how our coaching, esp around our Qb. goes. Can you imagine kap playing 20% better than he has in the past with great coaching? Wow , that would be something that keeps fans standing all game. 20%, that's all. I think kap is really close but has NOT had any good coaching since alex left. Kap always said, "alex was great to talk to because he read defenses so well". Kap is not that far from being great. But coaching, really great QB coaching is needed. Kap 20% better? I can't even imagine what that would look like, but with really great coaching, he can be one of the greats. Then, the added WR and OL don't become that necessary. JT has a lot riding on this season and he knows it. In his first yr he could nab a SB. He could also fall off a cliff....both of which should make this season the most anticipated by fans in the last 30 yrs.
One other thing JT. You better not be conservative like Mr. Khaki pants with the black sweatshirt. We are looking for you to be aggressive. Ball on the 5 yd line, first down, great RB, you score, even if it takes four shots at running it in or rolling kap out. You score TDs, not FGs. Just a hint...

Good point about Alex, Kaep may also need a veteran backup who can help him with reading defenses as well as giving him advice on and off the field. Is Matt Schaub available? Vick? Hasslebeck? A veteran with pronged starting experience who just can't be a starter anymore would be beneficial.

I think we're one good draft class (2010 or 2011) away from being back. We need to adjust our offensive line. (i think we have the players, but they're being played out of position) and we need interior d line presence. (we need to draft them)

Remember, we are picking 15th and 47th this yr. We are bound to nab some WR./CB/RB/OL in those slots who can help us in our weakest areas. And for the record, pdiz, I think with 2 really good draft picks THIS yr we are ready. A lot riding on coaching of kap, and how JT handles it all. But man, is this ever exciting.

How do you figure you're just one WR and returner away from the SB?
You realize the 49ers are WAYY over the cap, and have to let some guys hit free agency market and cut some notable players to even get under the cap?
Guys like Willis, Davis, Brooks, and Stevie Johnson will most likely be gone or have to take a significant pay reduction in order to to get under the cap?
Kaep is not the future, and the SB window closed last year.

We are definitely not out of Super bowl contention next year.
First of all, the key to getting to a super bowl is having an solid defense. This year we should have everyone healthy (Willis, Dorsey, Bowman) something we lacked throughout the entire year. We need to keep Aldon from getting suspended as having him from the beginning of the year will be huge for our pass rush.
Second, our competition in our division will be weakened. Seattle now will deal with multiple injuries to their defense for the first time and will have to overpay Wilson. The toll of SB loss and uncertainty of Lynch will be too much for them to even make the playoffs next year. St. Louis lacks a healthy QB that can lead them and no real RB so I expect our defense to crush them. Arizona has the same problem as St. Louis as I highly doubt Palmer will be effective after a major knee injury at his age.
Our biggest challenges will be Dallas and GB. Kap has owned GB throughout his career and Romo always blows during the playoffs.
Like everyone keeps saying though the coaching staff will determine everything since we certainly have the talent on both ends to make it.

fast wr with hands, help on the lines and were back in it this year. i think our coaches being able to work together (hopefully) will make up for their inexperience. harbs had too many chefs in his kitchen and the offense didnt turn out right. these guys are all supposedly on the same page so we should have an improved offense. our defensive studs are coming back healthy next year so we will have (on paper) a better defense than last year. i think the niners arent as far away as some people might think
