You realize the 49ers are WAYY over the cap, and have to let some guys hit free agency market and cut some notable players to even get under the cap?
Guys like Willis, Davis, Brooks, and Stevie Johnson will most likely be gone or have to take a significant pay reduction in order to to get under the cap?
Kaep is not the future, and the SB window closed last year.
Uh were not over the cap at all. $2.3m under the be exact.
I don't see stevie Johnson cut. Or willis. Vernon needs major help. Brooks I agree won't play at his salary he will be cut.
Kap will restructure his deal and aldon will be extended to clear cap room

A franchise QB, a #1 WR, 2 DE's, and 2 CB's away, IMO.

Impossible to tell, new coaching staff, unfinished roster that will lose and gain some free agents, hell we haven't even had the draft yet. We wont know what we have until we play a few games this year.
Things that need to happen for us to make it? That you can answer. The Coaching staff needs to improve over the previous in X's and O's on the Offensive side, situational game calling and penalty discipline. While not losing the ability they had to motivate, put players in position to make a play, and call a fine defensive game.
Kap needs to come out of the offseason with cleaned up fundamentals to go with his dynamic weapon abilities and the coaching staff needs to work with his strengths while taking the emphasis off any weakness. We tried to force him to be something too early...let him grow organically and allow him to use his god given talents to lead us in the meantime. Move the pocket...roll him out...for god sakes start the game with a couple of quick hitters to get him into a rhythm. Build him up over time, don't ask him to do advanced calculus before he has proven mastery of Algebra.
El Guapo needs to prove he can take over for Gore. Even if Frank comes back that split needs to become more 50/50 for the running game to stay potent in a playoff run. I love Frank but it is no joke that he is not the same at the end of the season as the beginning. He is like Peyton...still great, but not able to maintain level of play for a whole season without help.
Willis and Bow need to return at 100% they are the field generals and we switched DC's...we need them there for the whole year keeping that unit on point.
Lastly we need a really good draft and free agency. I don't just want to replace Crabs, Big Mike and probably Cully. I want to get better at those spots. I want a dynamic play maker at corner and receiver and I want a guard who can pass block as well as run block.
Lastly I think we need to talk Cowboy into one more year...I know he isn't quite what he once was, but what he is, is still great and Aldon being in camp and in game shape for the whole season lined up next to him for one more year would really help us with pass rush if we end up fielding a young corner or two.

This...people need to stop reading ESPN when it comes to cap numbers. Their reporting is poop from a butt.

1 WR
1 offensive play caller (we could have him, TBD)
2 CB
1 DE
i still think we are very close. Need to allow Kaep to let loose, use his legs, and call plays to his stregths.

Agreed, 1 OL, 1 DL, 1 CB. but most important, a top notch playcaller. Could be HC , OC, Qb(at times), or who knows. But he better be good. We can win with a lot fewer player changes with top flite playcalling.
Late edit, but not needed to make a SB team. It is needed, tho , to get this team thru the season with a hi ankle sprain to kap or some injury like that. We CANNOT go thru another season with no Number 2 Qb. Blaine was a project pure and simple and then TB and JH dropped it. We have to have a guy who can go in and just not give the game away. We got lucky, kap made it thru. But to do that two yrs in a row? Unlilkely. So don't need #2 QB for SB, but do have to have one....in a yr of only 2 name Qbs. Fine, we can go wth a vet who can play...but not blaine.

QB is huge issue on this team. Kap is good enough to win on a team that has a great running game and a shut down defense. Anything short of that and we will have problems over the long run. Can't expect him to carry the offensive load through the air. I would add an offensive mind who brings a system with him. IDK if geep is the guy.

The FIRST half of the season will determine which way this team is going. If they can win 80% of their games, they have a chance.
Usually (as has shown in the past), a new coach will motivate the players to play ... but once all of the rah rahs and all the motivational speeches wears out and the team starts losing, then normally it's downhill from there.
Those who think that Seattle and Arizona have weakened, and that the Rams won't be in contention here's what I have to say "Hope springs eternal"!
Don't kid yourselves. Those teams will be in contention. The 49er's have always had a tough time with the Rams and it's not going to be any better next year.
It's going to be a grueling battle and the coaching staff better be prepared. If not it's going to be a very long year.

The Niners have question marks at two of the most crucial pieces when it comes to winning the Super Bowl - coaching staff and QB. Tomsula and Mangini are significant downgrades to their predecessors and they promoted the guy that was in charge of the development of a QB whose regressed two straight seasons to OC (lol). The rah rah s**t will get real old quick if/when the team starts losing games.
The Niners also play in one of the toughest divisions in the league. Seattle isn't going anywhere, neither is Arizona. Seattle is still the best team in this division and I'd put Arizona right behind them.
Unless Kap somehow significantly improves his game to where he can elevate the offense and team as a whole, this team isn't going anywhere for awhile.
