Just how far away are the 49ers from a Super Bowl?

So not too far really.

At first I LOL'd, then I re-read it and this is 100% accurate.

He forgot safeties.

I think Tart and Colbert are decent and could suffice if we actually had a pass rush and CB's that could cover.
I don't know but it feels pretty far away. My confidence in the front office and coaching staff is in decline big time. Now without JimmyG and the terrible defensive staff/players we will have a horrible season again. Next year the FO will really need to invest heavily in free agency and have an almost perfect draft in order to survive their 6 year contract imo. Next yeah HAS to be a playoff year or bye bye.

Yeah i thought so too but they look off so far. Maybe it is saleh.
Year after next. Get edge help next off season and the others back and fix a few other holes and would expect playoffs next year. Then go for a few superstars the year after and go for the big dance
They weren't figuring on the playoffs this year. Prob a trade up from say the 13th pick. That gets easier now. This just completely blows out of the water getting continuity going into the start of next year.
20 years.

An ER, blown out knee RB, blown knee FQB, bad hammy CB, a lost of confidence CB, a decent Guard, and a whole bunch of backups that aren't injured prone.

Very close.
With all main players healthy, this was a wildcard team at best if everything broke right.

So, definitely need another piece or two. Can't win with our lack of pass rush and need another piece or two in the secondary. The offense is closer, but upgrades aren't out of the question at OL, RB, and WR. Would not mind some coaching staff upgrades too in certain areas. I'm not saying we can realistically get all that or need all that to win a Super Bowl, but it all would sure help.

The worst part about the Jimmy injury is continuity and chemistry. Probably sets our timeline back yet one more year.
An edge rusher and a guard away from being a playoff team.

An edge rusher and a guard, plus a red zone WR, a CB and OT to replace the vets, and maybe a safety from being a Super Bowl team.

I disagree with most people about our RB corps. Breida + McKinnon + whoever we bring in will be fine IMHO.

I still say no playoff appearance in 2019 would be a failure, especially with the draft stock we will have next offseason. Super Bowl contention? Probably ~2021. Hey look a lockout! Hopefully it doesn't last longer than the last one.

53 players.

I take that back. Pinion is pretty good. So that leaves 52 players to be replaced.
Our safeties aren't good at all. Tartt can't cover and Colbert is constantly late and plays with the wrong leverage.

For me safety and edge are equally our top defensive needs.

How much of that has to do with scheme and poor game planning? Both players has regressed badly.
