I take that back. Pinion is pretty good. So that leaves 52 players to be replaced.

Yup, time to get all the kiddos time on the field.
Reed, Moore, Jones, Taylor, BeatHard, Pettis, Magnuson, etc.
Just how far away are the 49ers from a Super Bowl?
L M A O
I believe the odds were 30 -1 week 1 and they went to 600 - 1 about an hour after the injury. We weren't going to the Super Bowl this year and even a playoff berth would be difficult so i'm not going to jump off the GW.
Regardless, if JG is healthy next year I would say 2-3 years realistically. I' m still on the "glass half full" and rising theory.

A million kagillion miles away. Jimmy G was deodorizer for a team that stinks. Offensive line sucks, defensive line is putrid. Secondary is an embarrassment. And no 1 wide receiver who can get seperation.
In 2018 without Jimmy G.?
. . . About as far away as Mars is from earth

To be honest, we need 4 positions to improve greatly in my mind: We need a game changing WR. Pettis and Goodwin are good #2's, Garcon will be retired soon. In addition, our WR's seem to be having issues getting open. We need pass rushers bad. Our secondary for too long has not been that good. Our safeties are not too good in coverage at all. Our CB's are average at best. And while Sherman is good, he is prone to injury too often and is 30 years old. These are the 4 areas that need LOTS of work. However I would also say our OL is average and I am concerned about it when Staley is gone. In addition, while not have our starting RB sucks JK, and while Breida has shown some life, I also think we need a stud 4 down RB too. Look at the Rams right now and what they have: A good QB, a stud RB, a true #1 WR, a good pass rush, two great CB's, good safely. If we want to compete for a championship, we have to compete with that first. In the 2019 Free Agency class, there are some solid pass rushers at both Tier 1 and 2. Sign a couple of them....draft a true WR with our 1st pick, sign a couple tier 2 CB's (free agency has a good crop in 2019), draft a good safety and DE with picks 2 and 3, then picks 4-7 use for OL depth/development. Of course I am no GM and this all may not be doable in one offseason. Truth be told, to properly address all of this, it will take ACING the next two offseasons both in FA and the drafts.
Our former GM really set us back with really bad draft picks. I just hope our current front office will be aggressive enough to get the job done.

To add to all that, I am not worried about Jimmy G. While he did struggle some, that is common really as this was his very first year starting. Look at Goff and his first year starting....I actually was beginning to think he was a bust, but after a FULL year under his belt and learning the system, he took off. JG has the natural ability for sure, has studied under the best. But he needs to grow into the role as Goff had that chance. BUT....look at what Goff had to work with too!! He had a great RB....do we? He has a solid OL....do we? He has a solid #1WR, do we? He also has a great defense on the other side of the ball. There is no doubt that a young QB will develop faster if he has that kind of support, which is why we MUST address the issues I raised above and others have too in this thread.

Good posts SFDan!!!
I agree, we gotta get James the support in 2019.
We'll make up for this ACL by having him not have to play an entire season with receivers that drop everything and McKinnon out too.
When it's all said and done, he only played 3 more games than McKinnon this season. Hopefully they get the next 16 together without interruption.

Draft a wr first???Good lord man
we get a stud ER in the draft 1st and bring another via FA along with a stud cb and or safety via free agency and we are playoffs bound. No more ACL'S!!! Can use later round picks for wr or find one in FA.
