Easily my most hated game. Notice in the Coverages and Concepts thread that no cut ups were from this game lol.

Will never forget Kap butchering the spot concept on the first play. We basically let the Seattle thanksgiving game beat us twice. Kap was broken in this game.

Yea it wasn't kaps finest moment. I guess he had words with Sio Moore LB too.

And wtf was iupati doing lol

Hilarious...looks like he was trying to bump his man and pass him off to fat M.Martin (who didn't help at all) and then break back to help Staley.

A bit of a tangent, but wanted to mention that Kap can help QP have more room to work if Kap looks to his right, just for a split second, to hold that MLB. I have an example of Kap doing just that in another play. I'll get back to it after QP.

This is it for this game as out of QP's 12 snaps, these were the only routes noteworthy of mentioning and might actually be the only snaps where a pass play was called.

Doesn't look like Kaep even realized the guy is there at the start of the snap, and could move to the middle area. Would chalk it up to inexperience, but could very well be just a s**tty game by all. 'Oh, no backer in the middle, I can go to the quick slant'

Nice little setup by the Raiders' defense though, could have been INTed.

Week 16
Lots of snaps for QP in this game. He was mainly used at the 'X' WR position, but also lined up in the slot a few times. The X position is usually by himself on the weakside of the formation, also split wide. The X works by himself without the help of any route combination to compliment his route. Once Shareece Wright got a concussion and went out of the game, QP lined up across from Steve Willams a lot, who I guess is the backup CB.

Patton vs Shareece Wright; Sail concept vs Cover 1

If it's zone coverage, QP's route works to remove the deep 1/3 defender. It's man coverage so QP is asked to beat his man 1v1. QP swats away SW's hands but fails to get any separation on a Go/fade route.

Pass incomplete to the short flat (Ellington).

I think QP is running an option route here. He is to find the soft spot between the curl/flat and hook defenders.
vs cover3

QP runs a quick curl and settles in the soft spot. Kap targets QP.

The red, yellow, and orange routes are designed to horizontally stretch the two deep 1/3 defenders (field side 1/3 and middle FS. Purple is designed to bait the boundary side deep 1/3 defender. This will create a 3WR vs 2 deep defenders situation upfield (red + yellow + orange vs 2 defenders) .
Notice where QP is lined up in relation to the numbers on the field. It's important that as he goes upfield, he does not get too close to red. Doing so will allow the field side deep 1/3 defender to be able to cover both red and yellow.

QP gets re-routed and is too close to red.

The field side deep 1/3 defender is able to cover both vertical routes. If QP was able to go straight(er) up the field from where he lined up, it would pull the middle deep 1/3 defender, giving more room for orange (VD). Purple has succeeded in baiting the boundary side deep 1/3 defender up.

SWright is out of the game
QP vs Steve Williams on a fade route

Kap goes concept side, but QP never had a chance once the CB got his hands on him.

Being an X WR means winning the physical and athletic battle. Strong hands to keep the CB's mitts off the body. Quickness for head fakes. Strength to fight through bump/jam. Speed to outrun and threaten deep.

QP (Post route) vs SWilliams
Pin concept vs Fire Zone Blitz

The In route baits up the FS. QP has the middle of the field to work. Kap is instantly pressured and never was able to target QP. He was looking to QP too.

QP doesn't have much separation, but had the ball been thrown, QP has the entire middle of the field to break inwards and adjust. Very wasted opportunity due to bad blitz pickup.

Hi-Low read with a rub on a sprint right vs Cover 1
QP vs Brandon Flowers
I think QP was supposed to pick/rub the defender lined up across from Boldin (slot WR), which is why he stems inside to start the route. I've seen the 49ers run pick plays to free up Boldin for easy short passes.

The pick never occurs and now QP needs to win his battle as he breaks to the Corner.

No separation.

Good job by the defenders to tie up Boldin and play sticky coverage on QP.
