Maybe QP could have read the soft spot and slowed down in the middle of the field.

QP really hasn't put out much good film. Seems to be a reason why the past staff liked going base and using miller to dictate cover and get favorable matchups with other targets Of course this is just my opinion.

Also, I absolutely love kap running slide type plays.

Pin concept versus ?
QP versus Patrick Peterson

Kap sacked. I really like how ARI pattern matched here. QP would have had the middle of the field to work, but Cromartie (RCB) and the FS switch assignments.

2013 highlights.

Versus cover 2 zone, he identifies the coverage, and slows down to sit in the 'honey hole' - the soft spot behind the CB(flat) and in front of the cover2 safety.

Very nice hand battle to yank the CB's hands down right as the ball is arriving.

That does it for Patton as those are the three games he got good playing time in.

Strengths:
- Good straight line speed when not bumped off route.
- Seems to do well with the ball in his hands. This is from the two endarounds (one shown above, another where he got good yardage but fumbled in OT vs SD). And also this one WR screen pass in an exhibition game where he took it to the house.

Weakness:
- Very affected by attempts to re-route
- Doesn't always get low at the top of the route (coming into a cut/break in the route)

When a defender is able to get his hands on QP, the route is too greatly influenced. He needs to use his hands better to keep the CB's hands off him or just get stronger so that re-routes don't affect him as much. Because of this, he does not appear cut out to be an X WR (split end). The variety of routes the X runs is limited compared to the Z (flanker) and slot WRs. Because the X runs a limited number of routes, he has to be a physical/athletic mismatch to help win 1v1, and versus press.

Not enough targets to say anything about his hands. I would have liked to see QP run a wider variety of routes so that he can use one to set up another. He could not win vertically in the SD game and so his Stop and Curl routes were ineffective. With Torrey Smith on board, he won't have to worry about being an X. His future will probably be as a Z (Boldin) or a slot WR. Too small a sample size to say much about his route running in terms of how well he cuts because he rarely ran routes with 90 degree cuts (like post#348).
Thanks for all these clips of Patton, thl. He's got some shiftiness and is a tough runner. I think he'd do real well in the slot, but given that's Boldin's role, there may not be an opportunity for Patton to really shine. As you mentioned, he really needs a clean release off the line. Put him in the slot or Z receiver and he'd do pretty well.

awesome breakdown Thl. I really hope Adam Henry can fix Patton, show him the proper techniques to become a better WR because we all know John Morton didn't do anything.

Next up is Tank Carradine. His snap count for 2014 is shown below. I believe the majority of his snaps in week 12 were in garbage time, which is unfortunate because I wanted to see how he did versus SEA playing meaningful snaps. I'm only going to cut up weeks 15-17.
I was done watching week 14, in which he had a number of snaps in the 4th quarter, then the news of Aldon came down and I decided to just focus on his pass rushing snaps. Also, because it seems he will play the nickel package as a DT, with base downs going to Dial and Dorsey. So for weeks 15 and 16, only pass rushing snaps were reviewed.

Week 14
This will be the only run snap cut up. I was done with this game, then Aldon went Aldon so I wanted to focus on Tank's pass rushing ability. Plus, it's tedious to search through a game and find the snaps where Tank played.
Nickel package vs Inside zone with Tank as the 3-tech (his #95 jersey is covered by the goalpost).
3Q 1st & goal (not a garbage time snap)

Nice wide base as he takes on the C, with the RG providing a quick double team. Head up, watching the offensive backfield.

Strength to shed the block of the C.

Makes the stop on Turbin for a +2 gain. Very nice display of strength as he just shoves the C aside.

His first career sack
Tank is playing DE here. 2-tech with outside shade.

Tank does not immediately rush upfield, most likely this is an assignment call, and watches the play action unfold. This hurts the ability pass rush since he's taking a lateral step to defend against a possible outside zone run.

Tanks continues to work and eventually RW is flushed over to Tank's side. Good display of motor.
