On the very next play, Tank registers his second career sack.
Nickel package with Tank as 1-tech.
Club-swim move. Think of the 'club' move as a hook punch (boxing term) to the shoulder pad of the OLman to get him off balance. If the club move works, then swim over the top to get by the OLman.
This is a screen pass so the LG offers little resistance in blocking Tank. The LG is to fake the pass block, then pull to block for the RB screen.
TJE is shown shoving the RB, which prevents the throw.
Kind of a gimme sack.

Week 16
Nickel package 3-tech
Club/rip move. First the club move to get the OL off balance, then the 'rip' move, which is an uppercut to get underneath the armpit of the OLman. This provides leverage to get around the OLman.
Club move with Tank's right arm.
The rip move fails and Tank is unable to get below the OLman's pads. Notice the RG's arms right below Tank's armpit. This allows the OL to shove Tank aside into the mess.

Nickel package playing 2-tech.
Screen pass to Tank's side.
Club move, then Tank takes a hard step to this right.
I don't think this is any kind of loop/stunt, but Tank ends up way too far to the inside and collides with Dial, the other DT.
It's a quick developing screen, so I give Tank some slack, but normally the playside DT has to be better diagnosing the screen pass. I don't know Tank's individual assignment here so it's hard to be too hard on him.

Bullrush as a 3-tech versus the RG.
The RG has his arms up in the air. This is never a good look for an OLman.
Same moment, different angle. Tank has inside hand positioning and is below the pads of the RG. This allows Tank to use leverage and shove the RG back.
A little bit of hands to the face as Tank's left arm snaps the RG's head back. The RG is shown looking at the sky.
Good pressure right up the gut. This prevents Rivers from being able to fully step into the throw.
slow mo
Underthrown for an INT.

Bull rush versus the RG as a 3-tech.
At the first contact, Tank wins the hand position battle.
The RG initially loses the hand positioning battle, then recovers to gain inside position (watch the RG's left arm). This helps to neutralize the bull rush, but Tank still gets a semi decent push.

One of the biggest roles for a 3-4 DLman is to open up gaps for a teammate to attack in blitz packages. Here, Tank will try to open up the B gap for a blitzing slot CB (#30, not seen below). Tank will attack the inside shoulder of the LG to get the LG to collapse inwards, towards the Center.
Hit the inside shoulder of #78 with both hands having inside positioning. The RB (blue) has his head on a swivel and will pick up the blitzing CB (red)
Tank wins to the inside.
Not only does Tank do a good job opening up a lane for the slot CB, he actually beats the LG and is about to get penetration. Although, Tank beating the LG might be due to the RB and LG hitting each other's feet, knocking the LG a bit off balance.
That's it for week 16.

So far, I am very impressed with Tank as a pass rusher. He might be as strong as RayMac, debatable, but he is hands down quicker than RayMac as a pass rusher. I don't know how good SD's guards are so I don't know if he did this versus good OLmen.

Yeah, he looks like he makes more of an impact then not. If you had to give just the eye test analysis on his run defense what would you say?

I didn't go looking for run snaps versus SD, ARI (week 16,17). NFL Game Pass shows a list of plays with a description of each play. I only looked at the pass plays. I did watch the entire vsSEA blowout and did see Tank in there versus run snaps. I don't remember him getting blown back, or shoved aside while 1v1, so that's good. I would have remembered that. This is from a very limited number of run snaps I watched. Wondering if anyone remembers a certain play, like him taking on blocks to free up LBs, disruptive plays that dont' show up on the boxscore, please share and I'll try to look that play up.
In the SD game he made a nice pressure up the gut play to help Cox get the INT. In the TV replay, they kept showing Cox running with the WR to get the pick, but never once showed Tank putting in work.

Outstanding. He and Dockett inside are going to wreak havoc...finally, some inside pressure in the step-up lane to go along with the outside pass rush.
I'm very impressed with his base, leverage, quickness, burst and esp. his closing speed! His hand/arms are very active in getting by and throwing off blockers and the one area he needed reps on was run defense and playing both gaps while keeping his eyes in the backfield.
So far in TC, I've heard he's been doing that very well. Tank just might be that complete package right now. And just in time!

Tank - Ian - Dial
Thats the dline I want to see. With dorsey getting spot duty on base downs and dockett getting spot duty on passing downs.

That is one young, active DL with something to prove! I'm down.

If he can stay healthy, we might have another BY. He kinda look like BY to me with the quickness and power.

I've mentioned numerous times I've followed FSU football for 2 decades. Tank was one of the best if not the best flat-out pass rusher I seen at FSU. I still believe his selection in 2013 is gonna be looked at as one of Trent's best moves. I think he's a difference maker and I hope he remains healthy and continues to craft a role in our 3-4 and uses that combo of power and speed to collapse pockets.
