Cant give you a number exactly, but he was rated below average. Supposedly he sucked in pass pro. They give up one s**tty pass protector for another.

'Below Average' for Larsen. Well that's not inspiring. The last time I showed a clip of a 49er owning a mediocre ARI lineman (Lemonier's sack/safety in 2013 when he beat the LT), Lemon went potato to start 2014.

Yeah, but good players should dominate below average players. It looked like it was consistent through at the game and not a single play, so that is at least a good sign.

Agree that good players should beat poor players. I used that same logic when I found out Lemon beat a bad LT, but I didn't watch that game to see other plays between Lemon vs that LT. Tank indeed was consistent in beating Larsen. I'll finish up week 17 tonight.

Wanted to show some nice balance and athleticism from Tank here. Things that let you know he was once an edge rusher.

Playing 3-4 DE (base personnel, 5 man blitz)

Stutter step, then club.

Rip.

Lean in while attacking the LG's back shoulder (left shoulder)

Tank is around the corner. 3-4 DEs don't normally get this low with that much lean, and stay in control. LG is holding by putting his left arm right under Tank's chin and pulling back. The QB is taking a 7 step drop and is throwing as soon takes his hitch. Had he held it a bit longer, Tank gets home.

This is from a standstill after Tank gets out of his stance as if two gapping. Once he reads pass, it's a nice display of skills to get past the LG. Right before the ball is thrown, Tank is seen taking a straight path to the QB. He is not getting pushed upfield, past the QB.

Nickel DT. Tank is firing out on this play, definitely not two gapping. Bull rush.

Get low and smash the helmet right into the LG's chest.

The LG is blown back by the initial charge.

Re-engage and bull rush. Low with hands right into the LG's chest plate. A guard standing straight is a guard that lost.

Running stunts will be a big role for the nickel DT. Here, Tank runs the Tackle-End stunt. Tank (Tackle) will crash first and take on two OLmen. The End will loop around to the inside.

Attack the B gap and take the LG into the LT. I think Tank is grabbing onto the LT with his left arm to prevent the LT from being able to move over and help with the stunt.

Aldon gets a 1v1 with a guard in space.

Tank does a good job taking two OLmen to free up a team mate.

Finally a play where the LG was able to convincingly stonewall Tank, late in the 4th quarter. I know it seems like I am only showing Tank's pass rush wins, but he really did have a good game pass rushing against the LG.

Right hand club.

Rip.

Compare the posture that the LG had in this play with the play in post#469. In this play, the LG is able to stay bent and leaning into Tank, preventing Tank from turning the corner. Tank's club wasn't as effective to get the LG off balance. Tank falls because he tripped over the LT's leg.
Tank nuked his knee in late November of 2012 (so he's 2 and half years past his injury). It's nice to see he was getting the explosion back that he showed in his pre injury FSU days. Personally, I'm all-in on tank....he was filthy in college and I thinks he's gonna be huge in our rotation.

That does it for Tank's pass rushing cut ups. Rather limited sample size going over weeks 15-17. Again, this is only my thoughts on his pass rushing as I did not watch his run snaps.
Strengths:
- Quick feet to compliment the club move when trying to get around the guard
- Consistent ability to get low pad level. Shows when bull rushing and when ripping.
- Good motor
Weaknesses:
- Inconsistent hands when fighting for hand positioning.
- Never clubbed with his left hand. Maybe he did, and I missed it, but he did not succeed with the move. I would have remembered that (I think).

Was really impressed at his film. I can't tell if he's stronger than he is quick, or vice versa. That's a good thing as it means he is very balanced and can out-quick or out-muscle Guards. Apparently, ARI's LG does not grade out well so he was not doing it against a high level of competition in that game. I don't know anything about the SD guards. Still, Tank definitely shows that he belongs, if there was any doubt. All arrow up for Tank and I am now even more excited to see him in 2015.
Have you happen to look at Reggie Bush at all? I'm mostly interested on his receiving out of the backfield and how his speed looks ten years in.

I did, but stopped. If I remember correctly, he was force fed the ball in the DET offense. Passes to him were screens and other designed throws, not so much as an outlet as the checkdown. He showed an ability to run between the tackles. Always tried to make the first guy miss using jukes. This resulted in many times not getting an extra yard or two than if he had just fallen forward. Not asking him to lower the shoulder and finish strong, but fall forward at the ankles of the tackler. He was a willing chip blocker, putting his shoulder into DEs. This is from only two games before he busted his ankle.

Very nice to see, would love to see his run defense, I have an inkling he is a good run defender as well! I really hope he is a starter this season.

Who are you gonna review next? Lynch? Ian? Dial? Dontae? Moody? El Guapo?

I don't know, maybe Dial. First, I was going to breakdown the Bears game where Kap had his first start to see why he did so well. Wanted to take a break from watching a single player.

I've been trying to remember if kaps first completion (or real early in the game)in that game was on a slant from either a far or near formation. If you break that down can you check for me and see if my recollection was correct? I haven't been able to find it on YouTube. Also kinda interested if it was a backside slant or a slant-flat.
