vs Cover1 Robber

Gabbert is looking towards Vance, but doesn't pull the trigger. My guess is he sees the MLB (robber) playing the passing lane. The window is very small.

Same moment as pic above.

With edge pressure arriving, Gabbert swings it out to the flat.

Punt.

Being harsh, I would have liked him to place the pass high enough to clear the MLB, to Vance. I don't consider this a, 'checkdown too early' because he did let the Trail concept develop, didn't like it, then he threw to the checkdown once pressure came. - Missed read/throw.

This camera view hurts to look.
vs Cover6
49ers try to get a hi-low across the middle with Boldin and Patton. Ellington running a double move and is shown below doing a stutter step, and that's where Gabbert is looking the whole way.

No one appears open, and pressure comes a split second after Gabbert completes his drop. Sacked.

- Good defense

Boldin + Vance will run Texas concept.
vs Cover1 robber.
On the whiteboard, the robber should defeat Vance's route across the middle.

The robber (boundary safety) takes a rather deep drop and the middle is available. This is the frame that Vance catches the ball.

The pass leads Vance for RAC. First down.

- Good read/throw.

49ers stack Torrey and Boldin.

Torrey running a pick, providing room for Boldin's Out route. With the CB on Boldin playing soft over the top, Gabbert winds up as Boldin enters his break.

A Vic Fangio special - CB playing so soft they give up the quick Out right at the sticks. First down.

- Good read/throw.
Where's the gif of Kelly rubbing his evil hands together.

There we go!!!

Keep 'em coming thl
CHI #3 was a conservative call, needed RAC to get the first down. Maybe its just my impression, but it looks like Gabbert didnt receive many complex assignments.
Great breakdown and analysis here guys! Keep it up

I got lazy and left this unfinished. Now that the season is upon us, let's just wait and see how he does in a new offense. From what I saw in 2015, Gabbert seemed hesitant in throwing into tight windows. I can think of a few reasons for this. Maybe Geepsula seemed conservative in playcalling so I assume that carried over to them not asking Gabbert to aggressively throw the ball into tight windows. Perhaps Gabbert doesn't have confidence to make the throws.

One thing Chip does is ask his QB to make the tough throw. He keeps using the term "NFL open" meaning if there's just a little bit of separation, that's "NFL open". So throw it. Maybe this can translate into Gabbert pushing the ball downfield.
