Of course a C should help with DeFo right?
The other DT has to show he can win to make this a deadly strategy. Putting OGs in a position they aren't accustomed to - pass protecting in space.
Watch for these wide fronts as a mainstay aspect of this defense. More speed to power type of edge players can help this as they get a running start on stunts, with space to work.

One unorthodox thing Saleh did with his CBs was play them as field/boundary players. One CB was assigned to the wide (field) side. One CB was assigned to the short side (boundary). This is not related to weak/strong side of the offensive formation. This is regarding which hash mark the ball is spotted on. The 49ers did this all through the 2017 preseason, and through week 5 (@IND). Then they stopped.
RRobinson is the boundary CB, DJohnson was the field CB.
And they will flip sides, depending on which hash the ball is spotted on.
This may be done because offenses will show tendency to execute certain concepts to specific sides. For example, three route concepts to the wide field side where there is more space to work - two route concepts to the boundary - or vice versa depending on pregame scouting. Doing this allows each CB to deal with a lesser amount of route combinations to diagnose.
The 49ers then went back to this strategy of flipping CBs in week 17 to close the season. Will it be a game to game strategy, or a mainstay with improved CBs?

Fast personnel package on the field with 4 LBs, 1 DT, Dime package.
Foster loops all the way to the opposite B gap. Using quickness and numbers to generate pressure. (that's a hold)

There are the typical coverage disguises like showing single high then rotating to Cover2, and showing 2 deep and rotating from that to Cover1/Cover3. Showing MOFO and rotating to MOFC (vice versa) is in every playbook.
This one stood out because it was a single high look to an inverted Cover2. Using big Dime personnel (3CB, 3S). Saleh will sometimes remove a nickel LB to put in a safety on obvious passing downs.
Rotate to Middle field Open with the CB bailing to play a deep 1/2.
Cover3 to Tampa2 rotation.
------
When playing Cover1 Robber, the 49ers would often rob the weakside Curl zone, not the middle of the field. The weakside Curl robber sees all short/intermediate crossing routes coming from the strongside - defends the backside slant, the intermediate route in a three level high-low flood (Sail, Y-Cross), and shallow drag routes.

You guys should breakdown that 4th down play in the Houston preseason game. Kyle indicated Jimmy misread the play but found Juice down the sideline, made it work and converted the down anyway.
Kyle said, 'I ain't mad', after the result. But what did Jimmy do wrong ...

HOU shows a Quarters shell. Middle Field Open, safeties playing shallow.
Versus a Quarters shell, the '2 man Stick' concept is the proper read - the flat is the area to attack versus Quarters.
HOU brings 5, that leaves two underneath defenders. JG didn't pull the trigger to Goodwin so the open WR should be Celek.
Doesn't pull the trigger to Celek. Maybe 57 flashed in the passing lane. Now Kyle is worried.
JG moves to the Slant-Flat.
Red CB should know he has shallow safety help to the inside - don't match the Slant. He matches the Slant route and now Juice outflanks him.
If two guys are on the Slant, someone else is open. Rollin down the field sippin on Jim and Juice. +24. (heard 'Jim and Juice' from the telecast)

I love that it's the same combo as the 4th down play in the pre-season game but out of a different formation and presnap movement. Stick concept on one side with slant/flat other.
It's a great combo for a lot of things.
I wonder if they have an adjustment for if the defense shows a press 2 look. That would take away these 4 underneath routes. maybe hot to a run since it would be a 7 man box.

Kyle has said that if they see a light box with two safeties back, call an inside run. This was after the vs CAR game season opener.

Hey jonny, thl, any chance you could look at some breakdown of Joe Williams pre-season runs please?
I'm really curious about whether he's struggling or just had really bad run blocking from the oline when he's in. I saw one clip from Baldy's breakdown on twitter showing the run blocking on the oline screwing up and it was Williams that was in. From my limited film viewing it looks like he's been the victim of some bad run blocking on the majority of his snaps but I'm not sure.

My favorite play from the game. Awesome wizard vision. Basically feels the DL about to raise up with his hands. Pass prob gets batted if he fires it to Celek. Then shows the shifty footwork to get a sidearm pass to Juice. Good thing the RB was lucky enough to catch part of the OLB or Jimmy prob gets Steve Young'd.

I think the blocking has been poor as well for all RB's, the big gains seem to have come for Mostert and McNichols but on runs to the outside of the tackle. I'd managed to find this from Baldy which had me thinking about it:
.@49ers can have a good to very good OL; but they need to play. A lot so that simple calls are made communicated. and Executed. Power to the Preseason. #BaldyBreakdiwns pic.twitter.com/9GFVoyBThw
