Something similar to this, where Foster is 'J'.

But what Foster does is play a re-route of #2, then hits a landmark - he's not pattern matching. Orange are underneath zones.

The further Foster can push #2 outside, the closer #2 gets to Spoon, which helps Spoon be able to play both #1 and #2. Colbert is shaded towards the two WR side and that will give Ebron more room to work the seam between Colbert and Spoon.

Foster looks like he is turning and running with #2, but he'll drop off and play a Curl/Flat.

Can't tell what Spoon is doing from the available tv views. If they are not pattern matching, then Spoon has to be wary of both #1 and #2, split the difference to be able to play both the verticals. If they are pattern matching, then Spoon matches #1 and shouldn't care about #2.
Only the guys on the team know. Foster not happy with how that turned out.

A stunt with Dee Ford and Buckner could have put enough pressure to throw the QB off on his throw. Add in Bosa *and* Ford, these plays should be much more difficult to make against our defense this year.

Hope there will be more winning games to breakdown instead of losers. Seemed taxing otherwise.

Remember when the 49ers couldn't execute a screen pass to save their lives? They had big, powerful plodders that didn't do a good job getting to the edge. And then part of all that was probably less emphasis on teaching and getting the timing down. Who knows how much those teams worked on it in practice but the times they tried to run a screen pass it just failed miserably, and so it seemed like they never tried, but they did.

^^ Good times. Kyle has been using some creative ways to get the ball into the RB's and Kittle's hands for easy yards.

Look at all the window dressing before the ball is thrown to Breida with two blockers in front. Bring Kittle across, jet sweep, playaction to the RB. When the ball is thrown, all the LBs have their backs to the QB because they thought the playaction is used to suck them in, so they're hurrying to gain depth. Pass thrown 2 yards behind the LoS, nets 20+ yards.

Delayed TE screen. Kittle pass blocks then releases out with two blockers in front.

Simple, effective RB swing screen with McG out in front. 20+ yards

Playaction right, Kittle acts as though he's about to sift block - everything looks like run action. There's so much room in front of him by the time he gets the ball he doesn't want/need to wait for blockers.

Jet sweep and pull the guard in one direction to confuse the LBs, throw the FB screen in the other direction.

Presnap motion and misdirection to make simple passes net chunk yardage. Simple and effective.
^^^^thats all clinical

Why do I feel like I've seen us run something like this since Kyle's been here:

This same screen was used against Mia in SB19.

This is about the closet I could find. Had to go to the 1985 Walsh playbook.

Am I dreaming this or have we run this fake screen with the TE sneaking over the middle late?
When you have an offensive mastermind HC, a screen is coordinated, simple, effective, and neat

When the other guys tried to run it--pathetic.
Bump

Off-season. Where are you thl?

Well, get ready JonnyD because you are going to have a lot of Ws to break down this yr. Finally it will be fun. In the meantime, thanks again for all the time, and expertise in teaching many of us what we have been looking at. No way to thank both you and Thl for the immense time and dedication you both put into these last two yrs of clinical post mortems , even on a bad, losing (and injured) team. Plus we didn't have great talent to begin with. Now...we do.

Altho I had watched kyle these last 4 yrs, and wanted him here in the worst kind of way, until you broke all his scheming down, i truly didn't appreciate the "How" of it. Please keep the tutorials up as they make the game just way more interesting and exciting...especially when you see something similar the next week.
I figured I'd post this here since the Rams are the 49ers' biggest division opponent. What the hell is McVay trying to do here? I've never seen this before. Is he using a RB as an upback against the two A-gap muggers?

Man, that was some of the most frustrating football to watch. Teams would just be asking for it, and it never mattered.

It felt like ten years in between coaches that would regularly run screens.

The only thing I can think of is maybe the RB is protecting against blitzes or stunts up the middle. Maybe a modified draw play?

Perhaps that. The photos Hero put up were all 3rd downs. Putting the RB there eliminates the threat of run unless it's a direct snap. When I first glanced at that I thought McVay finally put two RBs in the backfield.
