Then we would've had to pay Trent brown a crazy contract, while Jaires contract also coming up, they made the right move, Mcglinchey just hasn't been as good as hoped.
How dare you add context to my childish pouting. How dare you
Lol I think it's cool you're still in love with Jaire tho..

Yup and then some. ANYONE tasked with PP needs to be included in unit PP grades.
Yup
You watch that Philly vs Saints game??
30 drop backs for Hurts behind one or the worst OLs in football (bring up your QB hit stat) and zero sacks...vs the #1 defense.
QB play matters. Ability to feel pressure and move matter.

Brunskill, McKivitz & Garland are nice depth pieces IMHO.
If McKivitz does what he did yesterday he's your starting RG. Zero pressure vs one of the best DLs in football.
Brunskill isn't a guard end of the day. He was our best PP last yr. McG isn't going anywhere for at least a yr. center should be looked at in FA

Oh it definitely matters. I've never disputed that. Great job on his part for sure. The problem is sustainability with it. Typically, if they don't learn to use pocket mobility WITHIN the phone booth pocket, the hits and pressures and sacks and injuries climb dramatically over time. I'm all for finding a QB with tremendous pocket feel and mobility within it and one that can even make plays outside of it.
And if you're looking for a QB to make up for poor unit PP, you're doing it all wrong too.

That's called pocket presence, something none of our QBs have lol I've always asked myself the question, is it the QB and his pocket presence and awareness that make the O-Line look great or the O-Line make the QB look great..?

Garoppolo absolutely had that when he arrived. Hell, almost all of his plays in 2017 were off schedule throws.
So what's happened since then?

Great question, now he looks scared, nervous and just anxious, especially when his 1st read isn't there, then it's me normally saying ohhh noooo

Just rewatched the game. Tough day again. Their DL is terrific but man, they pushed the LOS backwards, blew up the running game, caused forced fumbles, 4 sacks hits and regular pressures, tons of tipped passes because of that moved LOS, tossed TE/FB's aside, let another DL star have a career game, forced/rushed throws and tons of dropped passes as a result, etc. and did it all with 4. Honestly, that's expected though.

Me too!
He looks like the injuries caught up to him and he has Battered QB Syndrome.

Only 1 of the 4 sacks were on the O line proper. Juice and NIck to blame for the others. McGlinchey was poor again however.
TE's and Juice had rough games for sure.

If you look at the rankings for O lines, they aren't the same every year. Units have good and bad tears just like individual players. Last year this O line played better as did the entire team. This year they had the transition from Staley to Williams with no pre season or training camp. They had issues at center all year. McGlinchey struggled more with his pass blocking. Another year with Williams and an upgrade at center and the line could be much better next year. McGlinchey may continue to be an issue and might need replacing. Point is, the line isn't a total disaster. All these guys are going to have another year under their belt so I won't be surprised if they get back to at least the middle of the pack next year.

The OLine sucks - No excuses about McG affected by Staley's retirement.
That's crap. He's a bust. Maybe at another position??
Tomlinson is solid but not very effective.
For us to contend next year, we need a RT, RG and Center.
Maybe one in FA and 2+ in the draft.
I keep hearing the draft is deep in OLine. Rookies won't make a difference their first season. We need some proven experience.
We're in a tough spot.

Disregarding all the other points, that's very true. I keep trying to get fans to watch these guys too (Arby's picking up PP too).
That one on Juice was weird though. It looked like an OZ to the right and no OL chipped him so Juice was left trying to stop the penetration but to no avail as off balance. Not sure.

Rookies can but you have to expect some rookie moments for sure too. All 3 1st round T's have played well. Ruiz has been up/down but not as talented as those 3 hence why he went at 25. The key is to get higher talent, coach them up and health (consistency).

If healthy, Richburg will be the starting center next season.
If he is willing to take a 3m salary reduction the cap hit to keep him or cut him will be about the same. This would still pay him close to 5m base salary- more than he would get on the open market.
In a year with limited cap flexibility, this will really be our best and only option.
