drafting a center in the 2nd is probably the best thing they're gonna do. McGlinchey is keeping his job, of course. Shanahan saw some good things on film

Center should be the emphasis, it was the biggest weakness by far. Last year with the same OL and a quality center they were pretty solid. Fill that hole, bring in some late rounders, bargain basement FA's and UDFA's and allow them to get into the mix, see what you come up with.

the only positions on OL that really need upgrading are C an RG. mcglinchey does not need to be replaced yet. idk what it was but this year he definitely took a step down. he wasnt an all star before this year but he was definitely better, so we know he is better than 2020. that means its correctable so its up to him to figure out if its his weight, technique, mentallity or whatever that needs to be corrected. do not waste resources on that position when we dont need to.
definitely sign the top C in FA over drafting(we can create cape space for this) as long as hes good in pass pro. C is a position that experience is needed to excel. he is going to be helping protect the qb the most an has to read the D along with the qb. remember when harbuagh signed goodwin from new orleans an what that did for our OL? we need to do that again.
use our top pick on the best OG available in the first rd. the one whose GOOD in pass pro. idc if hes a mauler in run blocking. DO. NOT. DRAFT him if he cant pass pro. do not draft another tomlinson. if there isnt one there at pick 11 trade back to get more picks an a guy you can get 5-10 picks later. idc if its overdrafting him, draft for the position we DESPERATELY need.
use 2nd pick in draft on a CB. with our positions we should be able to get a solid CB even with our second pick. we could even trade up into the first rd to get one.
use 3rd pick on an OL guy whose played guard an T an pass pros well. let him compete for a starting job or depth.
use rest of picks on BPAs. this roster is already deep.

Lg through RG were horrible. Getting a center helps but it doesn't solve the problem.

Tomlinson is fine, he's not great but he's far from the biggest problem on the OL. Center has been a massive issue since Richburg's injury. Your center is the one making calls at the line and when you're having to sign guys off the street to play at that spot, your OL is simply not going to play well as a unit.
Re-sign Williams, put Brunskill back at RG, sign or draft a quality center, add some other depth pieces for competition and see what the line looks like after that.

This. You thinking they go a vet FA route?

I would prefer a FA vet at OC that we can pry off of a team instead of trading up a boatload of picks in an attempt to bring in a rook QB. It will cost less to get a really good starting center.
Use one of those picks you're not going to trade for a top 4 QB on a RG. Brunskill competes with McG at RT and competes at RG with the rook. This covers us if McG doesn't improve from his his woes. We can't have a run-blocking only tackle.
I like the idea of having Brunskill to compete at both RG and RT spots. I'd still like to draft a center hpwever. I just want an upgrade on talent on the O-line period. My only locks are Trent Williams if we resign him and Laken Tomlison. Draft a center to compete with Garland and draft a RG to compete with Brunskill as you stated. And Brunskill also gets work at RT. Then we end up with the best 5 out of T. Williams/L. Tomlison/Garland & Rookie/Brunskill, Rookie, and McKivitz/Brunskill, McGlinchey, and S. Coleman. We can also sign an UDFA or take one in the 6th or 7th to compete with Skule.

We need a vet at center. Kyle wants his center responsible for all the protection calls. A rookie ain't ready to handle that responsibility.
