That would be absolutely brutal. Might as well start using Mostert as the QB/RB combo going forward then if fans are expecting the QB to create their own pass protection and make up for the failings of the OL.

Mobile QB would be all the more important ...

Definitely although outside of Russell Wilson, every one of them gets injured too. Maybe we should just focus on pass protection?

Yeah, I've ranted about the regime needing to pay attention to pass pro. I feel like they only care about run block. Get run block and worry about pass pro after is their M.O.

100% truth!

That's true but that's the offense Kyle likes. He loves the running game just like his father did. His passing game is built mostly on the short quick passes. If he ran an offense built around a lot of deep passes he would be drafting or signing a different type of lineman. If he ever gets a big arm QB we'll see if he changes things up a little.

I doubt he does too much. Elway threw shorter with Mike than he did anytime else, Steve only threw 13% past 15 yards.

You're probably right. Most coaches only know how to coach one way. Either that or they just don't want to change. Belichick had to change things up a little over the 20 years even thoughhe had Brady. They were more of a passing team with Moss and company. Then they went to a defense/ball control team.

This is why I'm done building OL talent into my off season plans. I've seen enough to know where they prioritize their talent capital. I'm not even confident Trent Williams will be back, honestly and I've been saying that since he was granted by this FO to become a free agent after this season.

I'm hopeful on Williams. I think there's going to be a lot of free agents who are seeming poised to test the waters. With so much uncertainty with thr cap and potentially having 10-13 teams in the negative and all the uncertainty on who then becomes free agents and what the market truly is, teams are reticent to sign anyone.

There's a reason T.J. Watt doesn't have am extension yet if Alejandro Villenueve, or Shaquille Barrett, or Sammy Watkins or Joe Thuney or Von Miller. Lots of big names are set to be free agents that wouldn't normally get within 8 months of free agency.

Didn't know all those guys didn't have deals, though TJ Watt does have another year left. I know this would never happen, but I think Von Miller would love playing here. Just thinking about his reaction to the Javon Kinlaw pick last year.

You touched on the one hope I have this offseason of fixing the OL. The cap will force the losses of some quality OL and ensure they are more affordable as a result.

This makes predicting and building my off season plan far more challenging d/t the unpredictability.

This team, with health and fixing the OL and adding one more ER would catapult us back to the #1 seed IMHO...retaining Verrett and Moseley plus young capital too.

This cap uncertainty is the one thing that has me optimistic we should be able to eventually retain Trent Williams.

The cap itself kind of assures most, if not all teams, that they would have some sort of talent on their team. No team will have a permanent abundance of talent like in the '80s where Eddie locked up hall of famers backing up hall of famers. So, I hope NC can take heart in the fact that - yes there will be some offensive line talent available in free agency. But the cap itself will prevent any team from locking up a dominant OLine like how old John Robinson had back in the days when he was HC of the Rams and had Eric Dickerson as his RB.

Having said that, unfortunately injuries really affect every team nowdays. With talent so evenly spread, even one injury will devastate a season. A talented WR, QB, Edge Rusher, DB or RB etc.. just one or two, will almost take out a season because teams are so evenly matched. What Kyle did to eek out a 6 win season with 3rd string players is simply amazing to me. Imagine what he can do with a fully healthy squad that stays relatively healthy the entire season.

Benton gone...Chris Foerster most likely the new OL coach.

Saleh and Benton coached together in Houston. Additionally, Bentons contract may have expired. And with Saleh giving him run game coordinator duties, it's a semi promo.

Rather he traded for Ford and Richburg lol. I have a small hope that MM can be adequate next year.

Saleh is gonna sign Kendrick Bourne and K'Waun Williams.
Not a fan of Foerster. I guess we're never going to have good pass protection

Legit fear...no quality talent ADDED and downgrade in OL coaching who specializes in power and gap.

This. Our only hope is a clear upgrade in talent. I know I'm setting myself up for disappointment, but hoping for Slater at 12. And a C/G in round 3. Total break of previous trends, but this situation with Trent Williams is showing the need for quality talent, guys that do not have to be coached up as much, on cheap rookie deals.

I think we'll be elite in run blocking, and probably 29th in pass protection. So PFF will average that out and say we're a good offensive line, even though our QBs got injured.

As always, its the 49er way
