As far as Benton getting labeled running game coordinator. I don't think that's an indication of more talent between the two oline coaches. If we're splitting hairs on that Forester has been an Offensive coordinator in the league and before Forester was added to the coaching staff Kyle was using him as a game planning assistant. He had him scouting ahead of time on upcoming opponents and giving a report to the team of what he saw.

I think Benton getting running game coordinator added was a matter of he's taught this style blocking forever in the league, knows the offense that Lafleur is implementing in New York and saw this as a promotion of sorts. The running game here has run through Kyle and Mcdaniel. Now Benton will have a bigger say in game planning. I think it has more to do with all of that imo.

Good point about Foerster actually being with the club in some way even before this year. Either Kyle is just a big softy for rehabbing guys, or he knew Saleh would take Benson away if Saleh got a HC gig. I didn't really read much yet about Foerster and I missed that about him being a former offensive coordinator. If Kyle thinks Foerster is salvageable, who am I to disagree. I just hope Kyle gets the result he's looking for from Foerster.

If pass protection was such a big issue to Kyle, why hire a run oriented coach? Unless its really Kyle that's coaching the pass protections? That kind of makes sense because a lot of pass protection calls may be imbedded in the play calls themselves i.e. the QB boot pass. The pass protections anticipate the defense to bite on the fake and not shoot through the gaps, for example.

I hope Mcglinchy doesn't get worse under Foerster.

Who's your top OL this year? Admittedly I'm an amateur at this but atm it's Slater for me.

When I saw the picture of Kinlaw with the animal, I thought it was a squirrel at first.

Glinchy needs to step up this next season. He has to focus on getting his pass protection better this offseason. I hope he attends that pass rush academy that Vaughn Miller? holds every offseason - so he can go against some of the best and practice his stuff and get better.

Sill working on it but it's more about which OL we'll actually be in position to get. Probably the best scenario would be a trade down ATM given we need a top C and G and could use a real challenger at RT too and that's assuming we resign Trent Williams

...if not

Unlikely, I think he is salvageable. He dropped too much weight and got some bad advice and I dont think the rotating cast at center making calls did him any favors. He needs to get some strength back in this offseason and work on his technique. I know he wanted to be leaner for run blocking duties but somebody let him go too far. Build up Glinch, secure a quality center in free agency or draft and get some competition for RG in the offseason and I think the line will really turn the corner.

Yeah I didn't know McGlinchy got bad advice. I saw him whiff a lot this season despite him having some good physical talents. I think he can do it this offseason, and of course, McKivitz and possibly another draft pick should go a long way to rebuilding this line. Personally I think Richburg has to be let go. So many injuries and so unreliable as a player - reminds me a bit of DeeFord, but on offensive line.

We'll see.

Well there is (I think) another OLine coach and a possible 3rd QC OLine coach on the team already. I think Kyle's ready to replace Foerster once he coaches up his young understudies. If I was Kyle and I know Foerster is a great run technician, but bad everywhere else, I'd have Foerster focus on that with the young coaches and as soon as the young coaches have that -- toss Foerster the way he did his old DLine coach. Coach up these guys himself, hopefully he finds another Benson either on the team (one of the two) or a free agent coach -- rinse and repeat.

As for pass protection, it is a problem, but with the OLine transitioning from Benton to Foerster, between the two - I think the run game matters more to Kyle than the passing game. If you can run the ball, it does open up a lot of passing opportunities even if your pass protection sucks. If you can't run the ball, even if you are good at pass protection - offensive life will be hell. Everybody blitzes and drop back and ignore any play fakes, and the QB is basically a tackling dummy at that point.
