Yea we need to sign a guard and swing tackle for depth.

no we don't....they have like 3 swing tackles.

They will more than likely draft another IOL

Who are our current swing tackles? I ,must be forgetting somebody.

It should be Coleman and Brunskill.

Now draft Slater with #12, draft a versatile G-C in round 2. Trade away Mike for a day 2 pick.
Post draft OL: Williams - Tomlinson - Mack - Rookie (Humphries, Green, etc) - Slater

Slater begins his career as a RT and moves to LT when Trent leaves. He will want that LT market money.
Mack does his role as a bridge center grooming a rookie for a year or 2.
Mike gets traded now that he has some value. Perhaps to the Raiders who dumped their entire OL, they wanted Mike in 2018 and they have a pretty good RB. You save 10m from his 5th year option and it's very unlikely he gets extended even if he plays well with this new Williams deal.
Brunskill competes for an starting job with the rookie second rounder. He is a valuable asset for depth since he can start any position in the OL

They could still try to snag a FA guard if there's anyone out there.

You nailed it. If the Colts or Raiders want to solve their OT problems by acquiring McGlinchey, so be it. Niners can offload him and his $10 million option right now while being able to replace him with pick 12. Two great options in Slater or Darrisaw should be available.

Yeah it is pretty much what happened with Trent Brown. More than Mike play on the field, even if he plays like a Pro Bowler, I don't think they'd have the cash to pay him since they want to extend Fred Warner. Trade him now that he has some value.

Which is exactly why Slater is ideal at 12 (if we stay).

IF you make a move like that, and I think you wait a year and give McGlinchey a chance to get his act together, but IF you do? You don't do it now, you make that move at the draft. You don't tellegraph your pic to the league like that.

I agree. However, they have until May to exercise his $10.8M 5th year option so now is the time to trade him to the Colts. I don't think they pull a Trenton Brown here though (i.e. if we get Slater, we'll consummate the trade).

Oh yeah. That's why I compare it to Trent Brown.
Nobody had a clue McGlinchey was a target because Brown was the RT with 1 year left on his deal. They drafted Mike and sent Brown to the Pats a day after.
If we aren't making a move for a QB in round 1 I have no problem drafting o-line or a CB at 12.
Trading back with a QB needy team like WFT or Chicago, and picking up extra picks than going C/RG in either round 1 or 2 would be sweet.
Yesterday I was worried tha tthe O line might be in trouble. I was concernd that if they lost Trent, they would be forced to use #12 to replace him instead of being free to use it for the best player. Now after signing him and Mack, the O line took a huge step forward and with a solid draft pick can be a strength of the team.

this. we should be good on OL. hopefully McGlinchy beefed up this offseason. may need one more inside but we are still way better off than we were last year

To be clear we are a Qb needy team...it is just a question of who is still there once we are within striking distance of our pick,
