Would love to have Mathis but I realized real quick that Baalke is our GM and he usually don't spend too much on FAs. But us being interested in him is a positive thing that gets me excited for now, at least.
I want to see our young guys via draft picks and FA signings get a chance for the RG spots.
LT: Staley
LG: Boone
C: Kilgore
RG: Thomas
RT: Pears
Looney, Martin, and Brown as the backups. Looney and Martin can flex at LG, C, and RG, while Brown can flex between LT and RT. Boone, Thomas, and Pears all can flex, too.
I'm excited about the group but have severe reservations about our RT position. Might see J Martin or K.Harris all over again...
True!
Not really familiar with Pears, has anyone seen him played before? I only read a couple of articles on him but not too sure how he is on the field. I thought I've read some articles stated that he's a better Tackle than Guard and some says the opposite so I'm kinda confused with him. He must be doing something right because he started on his previous teams.
He held his own as a RT. Not great but not as bad as he was the last couple of years as a G. He was a depth signing that I'm sure our scouts predicted could play at a decent level in our new scheme. He is probably someone we felt we could plug into the RT position if someone goes down during or for a game. We did not sign him to play G but he can play their in a pinch. I do not think we signed him thinking he was going to have to start but since he's a vet and has the experience at RT it would be better than having to plug in a rookie right out of the gate. However had we known Anthony Davis was probably going to retire before the draft they would have probably invested a draft pick in a RT before the 7th round.

is Baalke and the rest of his managing team still deciding to offer Mathis a 2 year contract or does he rather give a one year contract back to Snyder??

I agree! I would like to see the team take more of a Dallas approach and build the Oline with high draft picks. they don't need other teams old players.

Would like to see OL who do anything to protect the QB...throw themselves at pass rushers feet and bite their ankles if necessary! Do not want to see the OGs looking in the wrong direction as a blitz goes by their opposite shoulder!

Pears worries me at RT. I trust the young guys to learn and become solid on the interior but would be more comfortable with Boone at RT than Pears.

LT Staley
LG Martin
C Kilgore
RG Thomas
RT Boone
Not sold on Pears as a starter anywhere on the line but adds flexibility as a backup along with Looney and Brown.

Pears had I believe a positive grade at RT I believe +1.7 on the bills mind you.
Pears had an extremely negative grade last year as a guard...I believe -30 or so.
He is a solid tackle and a horrible guard.

Great stuff on Foerster in here by Boone himself (long-standing relationship together):

I'd be very happy w/that line.
Sure would save us some $$$$ this season instead of signing Mathis.
BUT like most of you guys I want a bad-ass Oline.

According to PFF (I know some of us have issues with their rating system for OL) Mathis was the second best OG in 2014 and was equally good pass blocking as run blocking. If he is healthy and he would agree to a reasonable contract it could be a very good signing. It would allow Boone to move to RT and give Thomas another year to develop.

The issue is it seems like they want Boone on the LG position. I'm all for making him a RT if mathis comes aboard, but the coaching staff hasn't even tried him at RT I believe.
Thoughts on Thomas as a RT? He played Tackle in college and has the length...
