Someone needs to tell Roger that he owes a couple SBs to the Cowboys since they've had a great OL for the past decade but can't even win a playoff game.

A terrible offensive line destroys even the best franchise QB's.
No one has ever argued that. The issue we all have is Command thinks if your OL isn't tier 1 they are terrible. There's no middle ground.
Honestly don't see that from him. The argument is they should always be striving to improve the line to be better, but its one area aside TW they haven't and its now been 7 years of this.
Apparently they wanted to upgrade Center this past offseason, but nothing materialized so they settled back on what we already had. I get it, it happens, but they almost never draft linemen high either. It just seems to be the same routine every year. Our starters are far from terrible, but I am not seeing them invest like they should.

I don't see them drafting OL as very different than the majority of teams. Once you get outside the top 75 picks there isn't this huge difference in talents. I would've like a center too but it is what it is
It's not like DB where the 9ers are the only team in the NFL not to use a 1st or 2nd on a DB via player or trade in the Shanny era.
Also they used a 1 on McGlinchey and 2 on Banks. That is trying. Again if Command would ever argue they aren't succeeding in where they spend their resources that be another issue. But instead he's too busy telling us how great the Rams value their OL two years ago. Now it's the Lions turn. Be someone else in 2 years. Rinse and repeat.

Well what matters more? You've said the Chiefs wont win because of their OL. Ready to make the same statement about the Lions in reverse?

Which is all that matters. Be a top tier OL going into the playoffs then it doesn't matter how you perform in the playoffs.

McGlinchey is a big mulligan to me. Not horrible, but certainly not as good as anyone would have hoped, especially in pass protection. Banks looks like a fantastic pick, (who a lot oddly hated at the time) but that's it after 7 years. I like Burford, but he was the 4th round and we need to see more. If they can keep finding late round gems I am all for it, but they've not had nearly the luck on o-line like other areas of the roster.
I didn't even realize that about the DB's. I think they've done well there. Ward was a fantastic signing and the young kids seem to be growing well.
I do fear once we face playoff caliber d lines again it may prove to be our weakness. I would hope they draft some guys high next year, but I wont hold my breath.

Well said. I certainty agree with 9ers4eva on his point about the secondary in terms of investment.

Granted all the other stuff football is made up of
could derail that as well (injuries, defense, coaching, etc.). Even if you have that.
The teams in the hunt are the ones with the best qbs. If Goff doesn't play at a top 10 level this year it won't matter how good the OL is. Mahomes will always give KC a chance.
Those "best QB's" all fell off a cliff the second they didn't have their tier 1 OL...Brees, Brady, Mahomes, Stafford.
It'll likely happen with PM again this year too because he no longer has that tier 1 OL.
But to your point, he is a first ballot HOF QB so he can certainly help offset more the any other QB in the league. But win it all without his tier 1 OL? Unlikely. I'll go with his own history/patterns.
you are going off pretty much power rankings
So you don't think SF has a tier 1 DL?

I've never said that.
I did say IF you wanted to win one with Garoppolo, because he's a classic pocket passer, a tier 1 OL is an absolute must...but even that doesn't guarantee anything. Why? Because you need both playing at that level through the playoffs. And playoff football in the 4Q was not his bag.

now you are talking like a person who watches football with Teams needing to be playing at a high level and none of this Ranking/Tier jargon in your post above

Tiers is such BS
Is it? Especially when they're reevaluated at mid season and for the post season by subject matter experts?
I can see your stance with PFF (worst rankings ever), ESPN, etc.
