For sure. Rams are pretty good on that too.

These are good tests for these young players.

Outside of Donald I bet most can't even name a defensive player on that roster, especially on the DL. IMO this should be a get right game along the OL.

True.

Let's hope so!

I thought we finally had NC thinking on a neutral level and NY comes in here and blows it all up. 🤣

Haha NC will always have OL on the brain and that's fine. Gotta call that out after seeing that s**t show, the grades back it up.

it's also just WK1 and overall I'd say the OL takes the longest to adjust back. There's simply not enough practice with pads anymore.

We also have to see things with some context. Like the fact that they faced TJ Watt, Cam Heyward and a ridiculous amount of blitzes. Brock Purdy was pressured on 44% of his dropbacks but 38% of those pressures came on blitzes. For a defense to realize that half way through the 2nd quarter that they weren't going to be able to get home traditionally shouldn't exactly be seen as a negative. As far as grades go. I did post some on here from pre season but I typically take them with a grain of salt.

thats actually very encouraging considering their DL

if almost all pressures were allowed on blitzes its more of a communication not skill issue

That is the silver lining for sure.

Holy s**t I'm looking some PFF grades for the OL and it's a f**king disaster in PBLK grades.

the ride side might as well not have offensive lineman. Burford is the last ranked OG overall and his PBLK grade is an 11! Colton is the 3rd worst OT and had a 40. Brendel has a 45 and was ranked 23rd. Banks with a 48 in PBLK.

all that said we smoked Pitt and Brock played well…QB and play calling clearly matter, but that putrid play at OL can't continue. It's obviously super early and there was a lot of bad OL play across the NFL. You Can't have 90% of your OL suck that bad though.

Yes, on all of this.

Colton is lucky that strip sack didn't swing momentum and/or hurt Brock who had to secure that ball with his surgerically repaired arm/elbow.

No need to panic but this is about what I expected with the talent level of Burford and McKivitz. It's not like they both didn't know they were the guaranteed starters and had all off season to prepare and study for this opening game.

We won so most don't care ATM but that right side continues to be a legit concern and McKivitz was supposed to be a better PP than McGlinchey per Foerster, himself.

Stay tuned...

I don't think he's a good evaluator of talent honestly. And frankly, I don't really trust him as the OL coach either.
Lets hope they improve fast otherwise we will be left wanting yet again.

NinerGM always was very skeptical of him for these very reasons too.

The good news is they'll have plenty of real game film together to watch and learn from.

He didn't cover Burford here though: https://www.49erswebzone.com/articles/171870-49ers-mistake-right-tackle-offseason/

My take away is that McFlinchey would have got curb stomped by TJ Watt also so we got similar production at a reduced price.
TJ Watt is tough for anyone to handle. That's why he's the single season record holder for sacks. Still I have concerns about the O line and right tackle in particular.

Haha. So true!

He was getting curbstomped pretty well by Maxx Crosby instead.
I think Burford is going to settle in and have a decent season, still not sure about Mckivits though… he might struggle throughout.

Agreed. Burford was more than decent last year and I wonder how much McKivitz is affecting his play. I think Williams playing next to Banks definitely elevated his play.

Good point watching the Denver game MM is still the IHOP favorite pancake.

He was thrown again as like the Dallas playoff game.

Still my concern the Homer's got chapped at when I brought up. The right side of the O line.
Did the 49ers predominately rush to the left side in this last game? I only saw the highlights so wondering if they attempted many rushes to the Burford-McKivitz side.
