Just going over some possible future 49er OT's.

Graham Barton, OT, DukeBarton has received some first-round media hype, and some NFL team sources who spoke with WalterFootball.com said they feel Barton is a legit early-round talent. The senior left tackle is a consistent run blocker and pass protector. While Barton is listed at 6-foot-5, 314 pounds, he might be a bit smaller than that. Some team sources say their clubs are projecting Barton to move inside to guard in the NFL. Barton could end up being a first- or second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Barton was named Duke's starting left tackle entering his sophomore season.[5] He was named first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) as a junior.[6][7] Barton was rated the fifth-best offensive tackle by Pro Football Focus on the season with a grade of 88.2.[8]

Another T turned G? No thanks.

I'm still hoping McKivitz continues to develop right now, and there is no signs he's plateued yet. Having said that, what I'd really like is a Trent Williams 2.0 (or as close as we can get) at that right tackle spot. So I'm just perusing the current college players to shore up/deepen the OLine at that right tackle spot.

I'm looking to see Burford and McKivitz to actually do some pancake blocks in this game, specially if the 49ers are up by two scores against the hapless Giants. I really want to see that right side start road grading bottom feeding DLinemen.

3 sacks and 2 forced fumbles is a pretty good place to work up from. LOL. But much respect for recovering last week. Let's see how he does tonight on a short week. At minimum, he's showing mental strength to rebound.

You're right, in the end, the spot light will be on that right side of the line like last year and on health. Fingers crossed!

Some of it has been technique. Some of it has been poor communication between two inexperienced players being asked to work together for the first time. We should know for sure by the bye week what that right side is going to look like the rest of the season. I just feel its a bit premature to panic this early in the season. We've seen worse O line play to start the season than this and we were in the NFCCG both times.

I wish we could have TW caliber players across the entire line. But that just isn't reality. Now, if they don't invest atleast 3 draft picks, including a 1st rounder, in that position group than I will just as irritated as anyone else.

Fair take and I agree too.

Personally, I think the OLine is stronger overall than last year with McGlinchy being let go and moving McKivitz to the right tackle position. The OLine is weaker on the right side runs, but much stronger on the right side pass protections. TJ Watt is basically Bosa 2.0 and only giving up 3 sacks isn't bad for McKivitz first ever start. He gave up some pressures but no sacks against the Rams, which is a good improvement.

I agree with you on communication and inexperience (mostly on McKivitz side) being a huge factor in McKivtiz and Burford's performance. Once they get more reps with each other, I think they'll be more efficient on those run blocks and more cohesion on those pass blocks. I just want to see either (or both) McKivitz and Burford physically dominate other DLinemen in the NFL.
These guys won't survive against Dallas or Philadelphia in the playoffs.
The right side was pretty dreadful today, again. Brendel also had his worst game of his season imo, as had Trent.

I dunno about trent but I am assuming you saw those snaps from brendel. All over the place tonight. Burford and mckivitz shouldn't be in the NFL as far as I can tell. Pathetically bad.

I dunno if people noticed but I am expecting some of purdys struggles early we're due to having to field grounders from brendel and then immediately upon catching having to run for his life due to burford and mckivitz graciously guiding rushers to him...

Where did all you guys go that wanted Burford to RT? Him and Mckivitz are a dangerous duo and not in a good way.

I still think he could play that at a higher level. He's getting killed by power constantly on the inside.
Are we moving into tier 3 territory now? What do the PFF micro stats tell us?

On a side note, it'll be fun to rewatch because they seem to bring the house on every snap. That stressed the entire unit pass protection (not a strength). The OL will need to be teased out some from the rest of the unit pass protection (where it existed). More often than not, there was none, hence why they had free rushers all night.

Like I said earlier, Dallas caused 17 pressures just from the right side of the Giants OL. Get ready Burford/McKivitz.
The O line got blitzed 85% of their pass snaps. That doesn't just affect the QB, it also affects the O line. Inspite of the adversity, Brock showed us what it means to elevate a tier 2-3 O line.

He played stellar under the pressure. If he could do that through the playoffs and Superbowl, you'll finally have your first example of a QB transcending a challenged OL FTW. We know PM couldn't do it.
Spencer Burford and Jake Brendel had poor performances. Burford giving up 4 pressures with 1 sack. Brendel giving up 3 pressures with 2 hits. McKivitz actually played well it looks like.

Burford is objectively a bigger problem than McKivitz right now. If he can't deal with power in both the run and pass game he can't play guard in the NFL.
