Yes true, but by bringing a talent to Trent Williams to learn during the season, it could still happen.
Better now than when Trent is gone.
I would love that. However, They've been impressive finding free agent OLine gems in Compton, Brunskill, Brendel, Feliciano in free agency. I"m betting that's probably the first thing they do, aside from trying to sign Aiyuk to a long term deal in the offseason.
As for the draft, A lot of draft nerd threads point out to a loaded OLine crop this year - I'm hoping the 49ers double and possibly triple dip on the OLine crop this next year. I don't think they need to trade up to get a Trent Williams 2.0. First of all they have Foerster who's done well with developing Banks, McKivitz, Brendel, and found Feliciano. I"m comfortable if they draft Trent's replacement in in Day two, as long as Trent buys them time to develop that day two draft pick in a year or two down the road - when Trent hangs 'em up.
Last year we kept holding our breath for an Olineman to be drafted early and it never happened. At least we got the early round kickers out of the way.
We got Feliciano in free agency, so in a sense ShanaLynch was right - Feliciano stepped in and has been instrumental these last couple of games to get into the Superbowl. McKivitz has been good enough to get us to the big dance. He gave up some pressures in the playoffs, but nothing fatal.
So far ShanaLynch has called it right on the OLine. Otherwise we'd not even smell the playoffs this year. They are pretty good knowing when a good crop of players comes, and as far as I know the draft nerds say this crop is going to be a good one. So yeah, no drafted OLinemen last year - I don't see that happening again this year considering it's supposedly a good year for Offensive Linemen.
