Excellent example of why lineman aim for the hip of a defender on a double team. A shoulder bump isn't going to move a big body. Pennel defeats a double team for a big tackle. Good job by him. pic.twitter.com/8AQ6j4Fiwk

We did nothing and history has repeated.
You can't maintain an OL with just one great LT.

Just curious though, how many guards in the NFL complete that block?
I'm all for improving the OL. But we need to hit on these picks, and OL take a couple of years most of the time and we're in a 1 year window as far as I'm concerned.
I hated our draft last year... because I felt they had enough resources to address the OL.
Now I'm wondering if we just take 1 guard/center and draft starters at corner, DE and DT.

Here is my #1 FA target. Think Trent Williams at RG. Spotrac forecasts 4 yr, $45M. 28 years old, 6'6", 335. Knows our system well. Nasty sticks out all over this video.

#NotGoodEnough
This is where we may differ, I feel the players were good enough. Now listening to Schwartz, Kyle got cute with his popping the center and it puts Burford in a bit of a weird spot. The whole point of the CMC motion action is to distort zone coverage, which KC isn't even running most all 2nd half. KC is showing blitz cuz of course they are. That's what they were doing, again all 2nd half. So it's a crap protection call, and needed adjusted at the LOS. Schwartz questions if Brock even has that authority. It's the wrong play. Really on a down that shouldn't even be a pass. That's 4 down territory. Who the heck hands the ball to Mahomes with a measly 3 point lead? This HC does, 2x. And it's no mystery why KC is wearing our rings. The talent is more than there imo. We can add talent, but it was certainly, good enough.
That's OK.
But I think you just saw very clearly why this OL wasn't good enough when it counts. When the talent has to stand on its own especially in predictable sets, it's game over. Bad things happen. This OL struggles when they don't get positive yards on first down (many do but it's exasperated here because their pass protection is rough).

Seems obvious however it's happening over and over again. Kyle really believes he can scheme away from poor line play. Fans know this D coordinators, know this and still he keeps his stubborn attitude. We just won't win until he changes or we have a new coach.

Spencer Burford spoke today about the Chris Jones pressure on the 49ers' final offensive play:

"I should have just played within the scheme. I played on instinct. It was my fault."
Wow, at Burford 😐
