If someone like Frazier or Barton is there take him and don't overdraft a Tackle just because you need a tackle. This draft is very deep at Tackle and you could get a future starter in round 2-4.

Taking Frazier at 31 is overdrafting

He is being mocked in the late 1st or early 2nd

So are the tackles we've all be talking about

listen just because you're taking the OT6/7 in this draft doesn't mean you're overdrafting. Any other draft and those guys go higher.

This draft is deep at OL across the board.

I'm saying IF the top guys are gone. I want a tackle but if Alt, Fashanu, Latham, Fuaga, Fautana, Mims and Guyton are off the board then I would be happy with drafting a Barton, Powers-Johnson, or Frazier... I like that better than overdrafting Morgan, Paul, Amegadjie, or Suamataia just because we need a tackle

With all the defense they just signed, all signs point to OT, Center and offense with first few picks in draft

It is deep at OL, I agree. But look at the history of tackles drafted 30-50. And then look at the guards and centers in the same range. Since 2018 I think there's zero OTs that made the pro bowl and 4 or 5 interior lineman drafted in that range that have.

The reason is they are the first centers and guards off the board. They are the best college football has to offer at the position and they have a higher chance of becoming impact players right away. The very best OTs are taken in the top 15. Those with 2nd round grades have flaws. Physical limitations or issues with technique that you are hoping coaching can overcome. They generally need some work and time to develop. And they generally don't succeed at the same rate as the interior guys, but they keep getting drafted because of the importance of the position and its worth the risk.

I say that because, of course the dream situation is to draft someone like Jordan Morgan and for him to over achieve. Hopefully he wins the RT job in year 1 and hopefully develops into the LT of the future. That would be amazing for the organization. But.. it's much more likely Barton or Frazier starts in year 1 and makes a pro bowl while on a rookie deal.
Just triple dip OL in the draft. Odds are one of them
will be good, right?

Just don't know at the position we are at, 31st we can find a starter for next year at RG or a tackle that will help.

The only other way is to trade up to the mid 1st to grab a tackle there, if available.

Feliciano is the starting guard. There will definintely be a tackle that can push McKivitz. Hell theyll be guys in the 2nd that can. It's that deep this year.

Trade back. If you wanna trade up do it in the later rounds.

I want depth across the board with young guys to develop on all parts of the roster.

Also been a lot of interior lineman in that range that have been absolutely awful. Same as the first round. OL has gone from a stable position to draft from to a total crapshoot.

Of course there have been misses. That will always be the case. GMs will always be wrong on guys that they like. We just want to be wrong less often.

I'm not saying drafting an OT like Morgan is a bad idea. I'm not saying Frazier is a sure fire thing. But if I had to bet which one makes the all rookie team, I know where I'd place my bet.

We say this on this board every year. Then we draft more edge rushers, wr's, rb's, and lb's.

It is clear that KS believes he can get it done on offense with a bandaid o-line after TW.

These are just a bunch of names, though. Not every player you list will be a good player. I don't think we're drafting a guy from a set of names.

They're investing time into choosing the right guy for wherever they are picking from.

Point being is being "happy" about any one of these names so long as it's an OLineman is a good example of why you should trust the judgement of the staff infinitely more,...regardless who it is.

Yup, there's nothing in our free agency to suggest otherwise imo.

We do this every year, fill out the roster so we have "something" in every position.

We could go in any direction come draft day.

And that Oline keeps making him look like an idiot in the SB. You would think Kyle would say "I am tired of my Oline making me look bad" and decide to fix it. And I just don't get it, Kyle knows he is so good at scheming guys open and that with all the weapons his offense would be unstoppable if his very accurate and great proccessor of a QB would constantly have time and clean lanes to throw. But he seems find having his Oline blow his plays up at very crucial times of the game. Kyle gets the choker label but really it's his Oiine that is costing the Niners SB's. He deserves the blame though because he is one who put this Oline together and said it's good enough.

Good points!

What's worse?

Having a massive blind spot for the OL that costs you multiple Superbowls or spending a gazillion resources on a DL that can't close out Superbowls?

This was all pre-Brock though, I'm betting he sees the importance of actually protecting his franchise QB now.
Not a ton of options in FA as expected the first few days. About 80% of the FA OL resigned with their own team. Rams chose to beef up the interior ala Chiefs last year.

Hunt is the obvious outlier here in terms of overall contract. Here are the players who actually signed elsewhere. This is via OTC FA...not sure how updated this is compared to other sites.

C's:
Mitch Morse
Ryan Bates
Lloyd Cushenberry
Tyler Biadasz

L/RG's:
Robert Hunt
Nick Allegretti
Jonah Jackson
Nick Leverett
Jon Runyan

RT's:
Chukwuma Okorafor
Morgan Moses
