need to bring Banks back. Losing Laken hurt us when he left.

Yah I want them to re-sign Aaron Banks too. Sure he had a down year, but I'm pretty sure he has been playing hurt, but that's the problem he's always hurt. I hope they bring him back but with incentives to stay healthy.

Remember Ward . He was always hurt but they stayed with him. Eventually he overcame the injuries. I sometimes think players push too hard to get back on the field and either reinjure themselves or get a new injury while compensating for the old one.
Rather they bring Bartch back then Banks.

Agreed. Bartch and a rookie can do better than Banks. Don't be surprised to see Burford over there. Banks is overrated

Puni should go to Center and McKivitz to RG , draft pick at RT

Bartch is talented but not durable. He was hurt a lot while with the Jags and didn't last filling in for Banks.

Seemed like he was getting flagged a lot in final games of the season.

Center is the big issue. Here are the current UFAs by their overall PFF rankings with the PP and Rblk ratings, plus their current APY salaries:

#4 - Drew Dalman ----- 67 - 84 - $1 million. Obviously will get a big bump in cash.
#12 - Ryan Kelly ---------- 72 - 64 - $12,5 million.
#13 - Coleman Shelton - 68 - 67 - $3 million.
#17 - Jake Brendel ------ 51 - 71 - $4.7 million.
#29 - Brad Bozeman ---- 51 - 65 - $1.1 million.
#38 - Josh Myers -------- 63 - 57 - $1.3 million.

Based on this analysis, Brendel's pay is right in balance with his overall ranking. To get better, the most logical prospect is Shelton. He is equally good in both pass protection and run blocking. Is he a scheme fit? I haven't watched enought to know. He will be 30 by mid-season. Will Ben Johnson let him go? IDK.

Dalman is the obvious "want", but at 26, he will attract a high market price. $10 million will be starting price for the bidding. He will go higher than that.

Matt Hennesey only played 16 snaps this past season. He will be in camp to compete for the job but with his injury history, he can't be relied on. Drake Nugent will be back but he didn't play at all this year. ???

Very good analysis...Is it Dalman or bust? If not, is Shelton or Kelly somebody we can use? If not is it luck of the draft. I don't know the latter two mentioned.

I agree center is extremely important this offseason.

It's all about how much you want to improve and how much you are willing to spend to get there.

Here is a list of the top Centers in the league who are on their second contract now.

Creed Humphrey - $18 million
Frank Ragnow - $13.5 million
Froholdt - $6 million
Aaron Brewer - $7 million
McGovern - $7.4 million.
Mixed into that group are four guys who are still on their rookie deals and will all push the bar up when they get to their 2nd contract. Those numbers will push Dalman's price into the $12-14 million range, IMO.
Kelly won't get to the market. I doubt Shelton will either.

That leaves us with a rookie, which is not a bad deal. Zach Frazier (we took Green) was very good in his first year. Tyler Lindebaum was a high pick - we won't use a 1st or 2nd on a Center, IDK.

I wouldn't mind Dalman at 12 mil, watching some video of him he seems pretty good. Not the best overall center but, above average and will improve our oline so much. Just going by the PFF rankings hes a tad better pass protector than Frank Ragnow, but isn't as good as Frank in run blocking. He's still impressive in run blocking though. Hes young at 26 and can still improve, also his dad has ties to one our 49ers superbowl winning teams. With that being said, he might be going for more than we want to pay.

PFF ---PassP- Rblk---- for comparsion to a great center.

Dalman ---- 67 - 80 ----
Ragnow ---- 64 - 91 ----

It's PFF so theres that.

My ideal fix for the Oline would be sign Dalman, then throw a little money at Mekhi Becton or Kevin Zeitler both shouldn't cost too much since they're both playing on cheap 1 year contracts right now. After that draft a RT/LT for the future giving us a line up possibility of...

Trent - Zeitler/Becton - Dalman - Puni - Draft Pick

PFF of Zeitler and Becton:

https://www.pff.com/nfl/players/kevin-zeitler/7032

https://www.pff.com/nfl/players/mekhi-becton/59818

That would be a pretty formidable offensive line imo, especially if we hit big on the draft pick too. This is all a pipe dream since we really don't know what the front office will do regarding our oline, so I just wanted give my 2 cents.

The more I look at draft prospects and UFA, the more it looks like Dalman is the best option. MM thinks he may reset the market at Center. I'm not sure agree with that POV but he will get a big number. In any case, Marathe will have to do some special magic to fit Dalman into the picture but I don't see any other option worth investing in at Center. Backload a deal and hope the down-road cap increases will cover it.

I think his final two games were outliers. He was too good against too many other IDs to think otherwise. PFF still rates him as the #7 overall Guard in the league. He is fine.

No I agree, he'll be solid

Banks is overrated because he was drafted too high. Still think he is serviceable and could come back on a friendly deal.

I doubt it. Guards get overpaid in FA.
