And do it soon, he's getting customers.

I'm down. Depends on what his asking price is, and if the team is even interested to begin with. I usually don't like spending money on aging vets, but Mathis makes a lot of sense in this case.

O-line is in a state of flux. Mathis is still one of the top players at this position, and excels in the ZBS. He'll immediately solidify LG, and we can move Boone to RG or RT, essentially killing 2 birds with 1 stone.

I understand why the team would want to hold off on signing a FA. They want to see what they have with some of the young guys first. I guess the only downside to signing Mathis is that it would indicate a lack of confidence in the young guys we drafted.
News from Day 1 of practice with pads sounded pretty bad for the O Line, but about what I expected considering both the personnel changes and the scheme change.

OOC, how long does it typically take players to get accustomed to all of these changes? Will they start to gel by the end of Camp? End of pre-season? A couple of real games? Or is this just going to be a painful Season?

if they like any three of Looney, Martin, Thomas, Tiller and Farrell we should be fine until Kilgore is back.

Rember last year?

Yup. That's why I'm encouraged. The "Looney Sucks" crowd needs to do their homework. He had a couple ugly plays in the same game. One of them was caused by JMart whiffing on a double team. That was enough to get a couple writers and a bunch of fans on his case. I reviewed all of his plays from last year. He was solid. Not awesome, but dependable. With that experience, and war Tomsula described as an impressive offseason, he should be better.

Martin was assignment sound and had good feet and hand placement. His struggles were almost all related to nor being strong enough. He's obviously stronger now.

Brandon Thomas has never been a road - grading run blocker, but he had LT feet coming out in the dtaft. He's a question mark with a lot of talent.

Farrell is young and was decent last year.

I don't know much about Tiller, but he was a PS guy that the staff liked enough to put on the 53 late last year.

lol

Spot --- freaking --- on!
I keep wishing I'll wake up and Patrick Willis and Anthony Davis really didn't retire. Its all just a dream, right?

Also, I can't believe that bum Davis retired AFTER the draft. What was he thinking? Its like he waited to screw us for maximum impact?

With all that said, I'd probably want the Niners to take him back if he suddenly decided to unretire.

What exactly is spot on?

Martin is getting beat so I'm not sure where the extra strength comes into play? The fact that we didn't move Boone to RT, freeing up both LG and RG for competition is an indicator about how these guards aren't just plug and play.

Screw that guy. He's a very talented guy who never had the work ethic to maximize his talent. His fatness resulted in lazy technique for fast pressure and bad sacks in key moments. I kept hoping he'd pull it together, because his combination of great feet and dominant power at the POA was truly special. Can't do much for a guy who won't do for himself. It's like he had an intense allergy to his own sweat that could only be treated with a case of Twinkies.

What did the O line look like in TC 2011? Garbage. Abused every day in TC and embarassed in one-on-ones. We won 13 regular season games that year, with the O Line paving the way. Change takes time, and no element of the team is more impacted by change than the O line. Everyone (EVERYone) will tell you that you can't play fast while you are thinking. No one (other than QB) has more to process on a given play than the OL. Their learning as they play. They need reps, they need film sessions, and they need to settle into their scheme and technique. The talent is there, it really is. Factors such as health and coaching will influence how quickly everything comes together. I like Foerster. Kilgore's long recovery is a bummer. We'll see.

If he ever comes back - he'll be looking for Tackle money.

But, the longer he's gone - if he can play - he'll be Guard material only.

IMO, good riddance and

...and Twitter posts. F*ck that guy!

No way in hell his fat ass would work to meet the weight goal required to run a ZBS. And he knew it...he tapped out...and p***y'd out behind "head trauma scur'd" reasons while still leaving the door open. LMAO! Total B.S. I can't believe anyone even bought that B.S. for a second. But to Oak's point, he screwed us big time at the WORST possible time. Absolute childish move.

I'm happy for Willis though. That dude gave everything to us...his feet were already mangled and then with a really bad turf toe on top of it, he was done at 30 years old. Too bad but that's a decision I can respect for sure. Thankfully, ILB is a position everyone produces at. This year should be no different esp. with the talent we have along the front 7 and a more aggressive DC.

WRATH is THE resident expert on the OL. Trust me on that one...

We've got time...try to keep it in context...new personnel, young talent, new schemes, language and terminology, new coaches, new style and philosophy, etc. facing a very experienced front 7 that has the ability to be tops in the NFL. Not a single player along that front 7 even needs to 'think' at this point. They can just play.

You guys are right about Davis. I guess I just woke up this morning feeling desperate about our Oline situation. We've all waited so long for this season to start and I really hope it doesn't get derailed because our Oline issues aren't resolved. We have all the skill players in place, but it wont matter if we can't open lanes or hold a block...

If Kilgore was back I would have 0 doubt that Staley, Boone, and Kilgore would be doing fine. This speaks more about Martin, Pears, and Thomas.
