Understood, but this division is for real and they will be playing against some serious talent. Everyone on here expecting guys like joe looney to some how become this legit starter or stud player are fooling themselves. Same with Pears. Our only real hope is our rookies and they have at least a one year learning curve.
I hear you. I'm optimistic about this season, but recognize the O-line is without a doubt the weakest unit on the team. Staley and Boone we know are solid. They'll hold down the left side, but we're likely going to have some struggles on the right side.
On paper, the Seahawks and Rams front can absolutely give this line fits. We could possibly matchup with the Cards front, but we know they're a blitz-heavy team, and we have to be prepared to handle that.
It could be a very rough year for the line. Best hope is for these young players to step up in addition to Pears, and hope they thrive in the ZBS.
To take this a little more glandular, if our o-line can't open lanes, who fears the run? And if the don't have to stack the box, they can defend the pass. Personally, I'm just expecting a really long year with the highlight being the second year and rookie development.
Trust me, no one hopes I'm wrong more than me.
It's been a long time since we haven't been able to run the football. Even with some painfully average lines and stacked boxes, we were able to churn out the yards with Gore and stay committed to it.
I don't know how effective this line will be opening up running lanes, but I am confident in Hyde. He sees the running lanes well on zone reads and is one tough SOB. He's explosive and will grind out tough yards.
We're also trying to open up the field with more team speed. Torrey Smith, Jerome Simpson, Reggie Bush....these guys were brought in to stretch the field and give us some breathing room.
It's definitely a concern. The team has the right idea, question is if the players we have are capable of doing it. I'm very confident in the skill positions, but a lot hinges on Kap and the O-line.
