Im talking about how bad they looked until Peyton came along. A team that relied on its Defense when Tebow played, Peyton came along and the dude broke records right away and there offense became unstoppable.

If Peyton had joined the Niners, they'd have two Super Bowl wins by now. Instead, both the Niners and Peyton have none.

We would have had two Super Bowl wins if Alex Smith had stayed here.

OK.

One.

I dunno, I think zero personally, Smith would have beaten Baltimore imo but I think we lose with Smith against GB so we wouldnt of even gotten to the bowl in the first place. Where as I think we lose with Kap against NO, when alex won, but Kap wouldve won against the NYG where alex lost. All because these two dudes bring different traits. I want neither of them as our QB. but riding either of them for a full season i think would have resulted in zero superbowls.. We made the right move in getting rid of Smith, Now we need to make the right move and get rid of kaepernick. Not because theres a better guy out there that we can trade or pick up in FA, but we need to go back to the drawing board and start drafting. We wont win anything with kap. we had a defense like i said for 11-13 that we probably wont see on the 49ers again in our lifetimes.

I won't turn this into another Alex Smith thread. My point was really that while Kaepernick has great athletic ability and can resurrect a few plays with that, Smith, by comparison, will make far fewer mistakes and is great at recognizing defenses and making play adjustments. Therefore, a guy like Smith will prevent a team getting into situations where you MUST have a guy with CK's athletic ability to bail you out. That is what I see lacking right now: Kap isn't even close to having the level of recognition that Smith has, hence whatever athletic ability he does have is wasted. Frankly, he reminds me more of Jeff George than anyone else.

We made the right move in trading Smith, we need to make the right move again and trade Kap. Doubtful we get any bites because of his salary next year but its worth a shot. You dont waste 5-7 years developing a quarterback. We seem to be the only team that thinks this is acceptable. after 2-3 years you can tell they either have it or they dont.

This is hilarious, so we just keep trading away our QBs? How about spending money on the oline? Our QB was a star when we had something better than a Jr High offensive line

He had vision and accuracy when he blasted Chicago on MNF. Is problems are all mental. He's damaged right now. He needs to sit and get his mind right. It worked for Alex. It's a mind f**k
41 attempts for less than 150 isn't acceptable, regardless of how good the defense is. Time to see what Gabbert can do
I don't usually root for Dallas but when I do, it's against Seattle. Lol.

I don't ever remember him lighting the league on fire...? He had stats of a mid-level QB who could also run, but largely benefited from a great running game and awesome defense.

Defenses adjusted to his limited skill set. Take away his running and force him to pass. Game over for us.

It isn't just that...he has visibly regressed in so many ways. The bad protection has made him gun shy in the pocket, then a couple of bad games got him to start holding the ball and not trusting his instincts and now he has gotten so broken down he isn't even looking around pre-snap. He has unraveled in so many ways from where he started. If he was just one read and run like he was back then he would still make some plays but be limited like Cam or Wilson. What he is now isn't even that.

Good post.

I believe it is in Kaepernick's OWN best interest to sit on the bench for a while. Let him decompress from this pressure cooker he has played himself into. He seems emotionally drained and mentally void right now. Let him watch Gabbert while he recovers and gets a smile back on his face. In the meantime, if Gabbert does well, great. We know that at the very least we have a solid back-up if not a starter. If Gabbert fails, then the finger is pointed in other directions. In either case, Kaepernick has a better chance of continuing his career than he does right now if he is allowed to sit for a few games.

As it stands after these past few games, I doubt Baalke could get anything in trade for him. Continuing to play him in the hope he suddenly reverses his field and develops some trade value appears to be a false hope. That dog won't hunt.

You mean our elite defense carried Kaepernick and our offense?

in 2013, 12 out of our 16 games, the opposing teams QB threw for more yards than kaepernick, and yet your acting like he was the one carrying us those years?

Just a tip, That defense we had from 11-13, you and I will never see another defense like that on our 49ers team in our lifetime most likely. The chances of ever getting a defense like that in the NFL and let alone on your favorite team is hard odds. Even with that, now our DEFENSE is gone, where we lost most of our players and you are now wondering why we are losing games? Sorry bro, The offense has always been bad, the defense was always able to cover it up. We had good games on O sure, but our D is the only reason we did what we did from 11-13.

But i hear you, Our WR's that have superbowl rings who torched our elite Defense arent enough, or our TE who had 15 TD's just 2 years ago isnt good enough, Neither is our Pro bowl LT or our Very high rated LG. We need 5 pro bowlers on O-line for you to be happy. Oh and our RB who is averaging 4.1 Yds a carry over other elite players like Lesean Mccoy, Marshawn Lynch, Eddie Lacy etc, is really bad from what u are saying? Even though hes running into a stacked defensive box daring us to beat them in the air?

Please. Just stop. Ive had to post this crap so many times its just old now.

The right side of this line is bad, however, (and I have posted this before) the 49ers won their first Super Bowl with a converted guard playing LEFT TACKLE who never played again after that season, and Bill Walsh managed to keep a still very young Joe Montana upright because of their combined talent. It isn't just about the OL.

This is a legit reason I can see for benching him now. It hit me a few weeks ago when I saw Kap throw a few balls into the dirt. A guy that has a rocket arm that normally throws the ball too hard or too high for his receivers now can't even get the pass to make it to them? It's all in his head. I'd sit him down for the rest of the season. I think he should get a shot next season, but they need to renegotiate that contract. There is no way they can justify paying that kind of money to a guy they are not sure about. Have him sit and regroup. Rebuild the O-line. Worse case scenario, you have a veteran QB in there so we don't have to risk any rookie we may draft. Best case scenario, we get the Kap of 2012. Realistically, we get the guy from 2013 which I can live with. That is still better than two-thirds of the league and we still can develop a rookie QB behind him.

I'd be more ok with the Niners losing if they were at least entertaining to watch. This offense reminds me of the dark ages when it was just a constant 3 and out.

Comparing eras, this team has more talent...Boldin and Smith are good WRs, and Simpson showed a bit today for a first game back. Hyde is good, Celek is good...VD was better today...but the OL and Kaepernick are just really sad right now. And it's impossible to tell which imacts the other more negatively!

It's 1 and 1a right now. I'd say the OL is worse because we have seen how Kap can perform with an O-line. He looks like a world beater on some days, he looks average on others. With a bad O-line, he looks like he doesn't deserve to start another down in the NFL. Our O-line on the other hand, have they ever had a dominating performance as a group? A QB is needed, but not the top priority.
LOL.
