I was hoping to win, but since we lost, I am much happier with a blowout than a close win. If we keep games close and somewhat interesting, ownership will not do anything. If they play this bad again next week, I could see them making a change at the bye week.

As I said in the game thread, I used to believe that a QB could develop the necessary acuity and awareness for the position simply through a matter of reps but Kaepernick has proven me wrong.

I think either a QB has the mental aptitude for the position and natural QB instincts that you can develop and improve upon, or they don't. I think its becoming clear that Kaepernick falls into the latter category. Tremendous athleticism, a cannon arm, a guy that if he has a good run game, a good OL and a good defense can win you some games but will never be consistent enough because the vital skills that the position demands don't come naturally to him.

A one-trick pony is quickly exposed in this league.

He had vision and accuracy when he blasted Chicago on MNF. Is problems are all mental. He's damaged right now. He needs to sit and get his mind right. It worked for Alex. It's a mind f**k
This is a legit reason I can see for benching him now. It hit me a few weeks ago when I saw Kap throw a few balls into the dirt. A guy that has a rocket arm that normally throws the ball too hard or too high for his receivers now can't even get the pass to make it to them? It's all in his head. I'd sit him down for the rest of the season. I think he should get a shot next season, but they need to renegotiate that contract. There is no way they can justify paying that kind of money to a guy they are not sure about. Have him sit and regroup. Rebuild the O-line. Worse case scenario, you have a veteran QB in there so we don't have to risk any rookie we may draft. Best case scenario, we get the Kap of 2012. Realistically, we get the guy from 2013 which I can live with. That is still better than two-thirds of the league and we still can develop a rookie QB behind him.

I'd be more ok with the Niners losing if they were at least entertaining to watch. This offense reminds me of the dark ages when it was just a constant 3 and out.

Comparing eras, this team has more talent...Boldin and Smith are good WRs, and Simpson showed a bit today for a first game back. Hyde is good, Celek is good...VD was better today...but the OL and Kaepernick are just really sad right now. And it's impossible to tell which imacts the other more negatively!

It's 1 and 1a right now. I'd say the OL is worse because we have seen how Kap can perform with an O-line. He looks like a world beater on some days, he looks average on others. With a bad O-line, he looks like he doesn't deserve to start another down in the NFL. Our O-line on the other hand, have they ever had a dominating performance as a group? A QB is needed, but not the top priority.

I still don't get why people want to give him another year... He has shown his ceiling, we need to cut our losses, pickup a FA and draft for the future...

This. And for a QB to publicly state that he "isn't big on mechanics" is beyond ridiculous.

Kaep must go (as a starter). He's going to be a good back-up somewhere, but not a starter.

He'll be a starter somewhere, but he's never going to be consistent enough. I can even see him having a few good seasons on the right team but he'll never be someone that you fully build your team and offense around.

Yeah, but the guy that fixed Alex is gone now...

I don't see a problem with it if he takes a hefty paycut to something more befitting his current level of play. Whether Kaepernick, Gabbert or someone else, the team will need a placeholder for a season or so if they draft a young QB. Meanwhile that extra money can be better used to bring in some more help for the OL or elsewhere.

Alex started turning things around before Harbaugh got here. For him it was after he was booed off the field versus the Eagles, he basically said he just stopped giving a f**k, Mike Johnson was made OC and Alex started having some pretty good games but he was never "fixed", he was just managed which Harbaugh did a splendid job of, but his limitations were and still are there just as Kaepernick's limitations will always be there.

Nothing Smith can do. That is why I said Kap is a WR killer.

No one is going to come here in FA unless the QB situation is resolved.

If Gabbert does not come in soon, and establish his ability to play effectively, it will set the stage for two more pathetic years. It will take that long to draft another prospect and coach him up. It may take that long anyway if Gabbert cannot perform but I am betting he will be much better than Kaepernick...but then the local HS QB is better than CK.

Great description, it's Kap exactly!
