I'll wait for the experts, but I don't see that the top receiver was open. He had coverage until the DB blitzed right at the snap.
I don't know if Kap could of just thrown to the wide open Smith without an audible to change the play. Otherwise he'd risk colliding with his running back (or getting sacked by the blitzers).
But based on Smith's reaction, I guess an audible or just throwing it may of been an option.

When there is a guy THAT wide open in the NFL. You have to throw the damn football to him.

If Peyton had joined the Niners, they'd have two Super Bowl wins by now. Instead, both the Niners and Peyton have none.
We would have had two Super Bowl wins if Alex Smith had stayed here.
OK.
One.
I dunno, I think zero personally, Smith would have beaten Baltimore imo but I think we lose with Smith against GB so we wouldnt of even gotten to the bowl in the first place. Where as I think we lose with Kap against NO, when alex won, but Kap wouldve won against the NYG where alex lost. All because these two dudes bring different traits. I want neither of them as our QB. but riding either of them for a full season i think would have resulted in zero superbowls.. We made the right move in getting rid of Smith, Now we need to make the right move and get rid of kaepernick. Not because theres a better guy out there that we can trade or pick up in FA, but we need to go back to the drawing board and start drafting. We wont win anything with kap. we had a defense like i said for 11-13 that we probably wont see on the 49ers again in our lifetimes.
No way in hell alex could have led the team back from the deficits we faces in atlanta. No way. No chance.
You know whats crazy. I Vaguely remember that game. I cant even really remember what happened. i remember GB and Balt completely from 12' but the ATL game i can barely remember how the game went, like who was up who was down at half etc.
I guess that's one way to back out of a conversation. The old "oh I don't even remember that game".

Where are the Kap groupies that are always defending him? I'd like them to defend this play.

I don't agree with Stoney, but this conversation is a complete waste of time. We will never know..so why bother? Never mind the fact that this thread is about Kaep not Alex.

Welp I've been a big supporter of building the OL and getting a new coaching staff over just getting rid of Kap but It's time to move on. Play Blaine, get players that have a future with the team more snaps, and let's get the first pick in he draft.
Trade Kap for whatever you can get from philly, get crazy in FA, move up in the draft to get game changers not a crap ton of players (quality over quantity), and hire hue Jackson or McDaniels as HC

Well, if it's like that, this whole entire forum is just a waste of time. So what's the point of pointing that out? lol

All this play says to me is that the Rams had absolutely no respect for Kaepernick as a quarterback or Chryst as an OC. They KNEW that Kaepernick would not throw it from there and went after the run with a vengeance.

There's plenty to talk about in regards to Kaep without bringing up old tired arguments that will never be resolved.

Didn't get to watch the game. But that's 2 receivers throwing up their hands to get the 'I'm wide ass open' clue. That looks like a qb that don't give a s**t in what he's seeing on the field. Pretty much all the Rams players gathered within 10yds in front of Kaep. And he didn't realized 2 of his receivers aren't covered....
